Ouch! Those temps are horrendous! I hope everyone's chickens in the hot zone are OK.

I am not sure what our maximum was today but everyone fared pretty well except for LuLu, my little Frizzle, she seems to not be coping as well; I have been topping up their waterers with fridge water and as she seems to be suffering the most, damping her comb, chest and face down a little, she even feels hot, poor little thing :(

OMG Sam, those temps are awful!  I think I'd be in an iced bath if I had to survive that.  I hope you & everyone else nearer 40 than 30 have some relief from it soon!

I bet those Russian ships have great aircon.  Wonder if they'd be inclined to give tours.  ; )

I'm starting to guess gender of my chicks.  It seems that my luck may have run out with the high numbers.  I'm seeing an awful lot of reddening combs but am going to wait the full six weeks before deciding, hopefully with some help.  : )

That's a picture I sent sam at lunch time of our temps. She is back down to a lovely 20 ish today. I can only wish of those temps today.

Yes.I have sprinklers runnings in the.pens but some just don't cope with the extreeme heat. Today was 14c hotter than normal for this time.of year. Tomorrow is going to be hotter.

Does anyone just wet their birds? That would cool them nicely...

I can't imagine living in 45 deg heat. Sounds horrible.

I think the Russian ships are pretty hot too.

Actually wetting them like soaking can kill them quicker. They use the feathers like insulation. Sprinklers are used to cool the air via water and misters will only dampen mainly my girls despise being wet but will bury them selves in cold dirt hollows.

Hi CWrite.

Sorry for the confusion. Will be more careful to explain better

Satays correct it was a pic she sent me. We have had rain over night

Not great amounts but good water for the plants.

Rain, That's that funny stuff I keep dreaming about :lau

The 45c is the problem so much felix but the fact it is staying so hot for so long at the moment. It was 35c at midnight last night. Normally we do get that type of heat out here in summer but it either cools down quick once the sun goes down or we get a storm. With that not happening it's harder for the girls to cool themselves.
