cwrite, well we do have the European Vipers (or adders, they seem to go by both names), but you have to be allergic for them to kill a grown up. Kids and animals are in the risk zone though. But I'd say they're as dangerous as a beehive. I do think we might have a lynx somewhere in the woods by our house. Kiusa brought us a deer leg the other day, and there's not enough forest here for hunting, so I think some animal had taken it down. Wolves seem improbable, so the lynx is my best guess. To get a hunting license for deer, you need a continuous 500 hectare area, and no one would be stupid enough to shoot a gun in an area this small and this densely populated.

Are Australorps a particularly large breed? Having only had hatchery ones years ago I'm a bit surprised at the rate our new one is growing. Seems to be growing right before my eyes lol. It's going to outgrow it's silkie "mum" very soon and it's only 7 weeks. Wondering if it's going to end up bigger than the faverolles?

My lorp is a big girl. So probably yes.

The ' blood spot ' or ' meat spot ' in the top pic just indicates mild stress or trauma when the egg was being formed, this happens in infertile eggs too. The bottom eggs look fertile, a white ' bullseye ' is what you are looking for.

Aww Fancy. How's the young horse doing ?

He's a bit sore and sorry for himself. The swelling has gone down with a little bute. The vet didn't turn up so we can only hope that he may ' grace ' us with his presence today. I think he will need a tetanus shot and maybe some antibiotics, in the meantime I will spray it with Terramycin this morning if the medihoney hasn't helped. He is such a lovely boy , just stood there while we tended his wounds.

Wow what kind of a vet just doesnt show up? Thats just rude!

A busy one ! We only have one equine vet and he is an hour away and unfortunately he was called out to a mare with a ' stuck foal ' , as with humans it's a matter of urgency and the nature of the emergency . He will come tomorrow during his regular valley clinic. That's life in the country!

Today I discovered 3 x the little ducklings drowned in the storm water, :( . One of the young horses got caught up in the neighbors barbed wire and has torn his legs to smithereens , and we are on our way out to our daughters yr 12 formal. Life is never dull at Inlet Farm !

Sorry for your loss Fancy.:hit I hope your horse recovers well and your daughter had a fantastic formal.
