Aaaw that is so cute!

It's funny, they are so tiny but they think they are all grown up; roosting, scratching etc!

I gave Cilla a meal worm as a treat and, of course, she gave it to the bubs! Watching two 4 days old's on either end of a worm, tugging with all their might is so cute!

Dusty went through a hard molt this time last year also ... it may be a Langshan-thing or just a Dusty-thing? My Pekins drop quite a few feathers but I have never seen huge bald patches on them. LuLu (Frizzle) dropped a few feathers and was down to about 4 tail feathers but again, no great big bald patches. This is what Dusty looked like in April 2014. It is a bit sad if the poor thing has to go through this every 12 months! Last year was my first experience with a hard molt. I went to work, Dusty looked fine .. came home and she looked like this! Feathers all over the run and she was looking very sad and sorry for herself. I thought she had been attacked and rushed to pick her up ... She was not happy about that! I didn't realise how tender they are when they molt; lesson learnt! No touching!
Omg id love to see some pictures of lulu! Never even knew frizzles existed until i went to the zoo a few months ago of all places! They are about the cutest things ive ever seen and definitely want some in the not so near future! Well my 2nd hen started laying last week (got married fri is why im only just posting now!) And she has gone through laying anywhere, no shell, yolk on outside, very small, skipping a couple days.. and i think todays the day shes got her egg laying skills down! Guess well find out in the next couple days but suddenly today her egg was huge, in the nesting box and very well formed :-D go Miss Vonte! My first hen Scarlett started laying almost 2 months before her (born same time) and right from word go she had perfectly formed eggs in the most protected area, all uniform in every way. Was so shocked and proud. In her first 2 dozen she laid 2 double yolkers! So heres Miss Vonte's first egg (excluding the prototypes :p) very proud of her! (Big white oval shaped one)

@IamSamSam theyre some good looking chooks!
@satay great to know theres another crazy rooster lady! When i first got my lot there were 4roosters 2 hens! What rotten luck. So i didnt name 2 of them so i could get rid of them when the time came. But it never seemed to come. All my roosters get along really well and know their place. Ive never seen a fight or any evidence thereof. I raised them from 1 week so ive grown attached even without names.. and theyre getting extra beautiful now :p if theyre not fighting theres no need to get rid of them. I like having them happy together instead of possibly in someones stew pot and they provide extra protection for my flock which roam on a few acres so it is well needed. Although I dont think theres an animal out that my Rodney couldnt protect them against :-D

Random non-news from the Owlhome flock:  When are you guys going to realise that at 20-24 weeks you should be laying, and-or crowing as your sex dictates!

Okay, the silkies are off the hook on that one - my tiny female silkie Candycorn has less than my little finger's width between her keel and pubic bone, she's so little.  My little silkie rooster Ivan the Terrible likes to cuddle under the big breed rooster, so God only knows what he thinks his 'job' is.  Lord high snuggle bunny, maybe.

But my huge (and they really are huge, I have to carry them one at a time) white sussex ladies are up to four fingers now, even the sprightly anconas are getting there.  My gentle-man rooster, Wellington, is a massive boy.

I've tried crowing near him (don't laugh!) to see what he does.  He looks at me with a horrified, melancholic expression, and then wanders off with a hurt look on his face.

I wonder if all Marans are as cuddly as Ori, the 'wheaten' Maran I have - she'll sit next to me while I stroke her head feathers and then stretch out and fall asleep.  Sometimes she falls off the bench.  If she's really zoned out, she'll lie on the ground for a while.

Aww ur little rooster sounds so sweet! Haha dont worry i crow at my roosters too.. thats hilarious the way he looked at u for it though haha. Hey good idea though i think if u keep at it it might encourage him a lil more when he is ready.

I was feeling exactly the same when Miss Vonte hit 22 weeks! And 23.. and 24.. and 25.. and 26... Now shes laying! Quick tell ur girls that shes started now and theyll catch up ;-)

Thanks ! I'm really happy with this lot.

RodneyRooster congratulations on your recent nuptials. Congratulations on Miss Vonte’s first egg also; it sometimes takes them a few attempts to get the plumbing right

LuLu is the clown of the flock and you can’t help but love her. She is so cute! Nothing phases this little gal.

Hubby picked LuLu out of a bin full of identical looking Frizzles and she is his favourite.

He overhead me one day on the phone saying “I have four chickens”; he promptly corrected me “You have three chickens”. When I am talking to hubby about the gals, LuLu is more often than not referred to as “your chicken”.

Before she runs across the garden, she pulls her head back into her feathers and then takes off, a bit like a wind up toy

I love this one; funny little gal!
