Australia - Six states..and that funny little island.

:welcome
Hi all,
I'm in the Wet Sundays....well officially the Whitsundays but we're currently having a little bit of wetness.  We are new to chooks ado got our first 10 about 6 weeks ago..... we've had 3 eggs so far and neighbours are beginning to drop in egg cartons....do you think that is a hint that they will be happy to take any excess to our requirements.  We live out on a very relaxing acreage, bordering on rainforest.  The girls are very happy and very relaxed free ranging.  I get lots of helpers in the garden every time I'm out doing a bit of weeding or digging and its lovely to see them all so busy..  Still in the process of coming up with names for them all.  Letting their charactors develop.

Congrats on the hatches everyone. Unfortunately my little silkie momma went off the lay yesterday. They were due to hatch next week,

I'd say a rat spooked her, one of the eggs were crushed. By the time I found them they were stone cold.
Oh well back to the drawing board. I will set some under the very next hen to go broody. One of the docs wives has placed an order for BLRW.
The weather here has been ' spring like ' during the day. All the daffodils and jonquils have their smiling faces on. However we have a big comp on this Sunday and the forecast is 10 degrees , windy and rain, of course.

Oh bugger

sorry to hear Fancy. The 2 eggs that were under Squeak when she quit sitting were quite cold; they are due to hatch either tomorrow or Sunday, so

I am prepared though if they don't hatch.

All the best for Sunday too! I have a dog show tomorrow evening and they are predicting rain.

Howdy folks

Thank you all for the hints/tips/thoughts on how you clean you water containers. Thank You also for your kind comments and congratulations on my award.

PS. I know where Townsville is

My FIL lives just outside Ingham so I have been to Townsville on many occasions. We also have an office in Townsville which I have visited … beautiful part of Aus!

chooks01 I am so sorry to read about you Araucana.

cwrite lol at your puddy cats not impressed with the bowl sharing. I saw a couple of good cat pics on FB …..

While this one does not look like my Chimee, the sentiment is definitely her!!

K Spot I am sorry to hear that Squeak quit but as you were considering giving the chicks to Whoopi, probably not a bad thing. Congrats on the bubs!

Congrats on the bubs also Deej211 .. adorable!

Tee hee Sam, love the stink eye!

Fancy the stalagmite and frozen water shot is a classic! Sorry about your Silkie mumma

Sidhe13 I know I am late to party on this one, but I give away my mixed breeds when I have them; granted they are not 14-16 weeks old but yep, if I had to pay for one, I guess it would depend on how much I wanted it. I wouldn’t pay more than $20.

Hey MyHaven sorry, but Bambrook Bamtams is an all girl affair, no fertile eggs. I have two beautiful mixed breed girls that I kept from some fertile eggs I purchased from a local breeder but sadly, at the time, she was in the process of possibly selling up/relocating due to ill health.

I have tried to find her again, but it looks like she has indeed gone which is very sad as I would definitely have purchased from her again.

Howdy Manyana and welcome to the thread.
I also give eggs to my neighbours if/when I can; having bantams who spend the majority of their time either broody or moulting, the neighbours do not get many

Good luck to all those with upcoming hatches .. looking forward to the pics

Definitely No Getting Ready for Spring here!! I do not care where my next broody sits on the pecking order or if she begs, pleads and persists; we have reached critical chicken mass and no-one is going to break me …. Tee hee, do not quote me on that

Bambrook Bantams is cruising along nicely; no dramas.

Last Sunday two eggs were laid on the same day … this is the first time we have had two eggs in one day since 1st March!

Hi, I have been trying to pm you on the BYC iPad App. It won't work.

Has anyone else had trouble?

Not with that but whenever something won't work on the app imjust click the desktop option down the bottom. Do whatever it was, then switch back to mobile

I had to get rid of our rooster. He became super aggressive and even me, who fed him and who he'd been okay with, became his target for attacks everytime I stepped outside... Imagine what he could have done to someone who didn't know he was there,...or to a kid.
