My wyandotte began laying just four weeks ago. First to start were the youngies I hatched myself late last Autumn. The older hens followed soon after. At the start of laying they were still separated. Once laying started I decided to integrate the newbies. At first they just sat on the ground outside the roost. After about a week I figured that the daytime games of sorting out the new order of things were well in progess and getting sorted with very little fuss so after dark the four newbies were placed inside the roost. They then roosted on the floor under a clear area of the roost for two nights
. On the third one newbie was perching, next night all had found a spot.....
Interestingly they had always huddled together, but now they have new buddies and dont sleep in a bunch any longer.

Cheers

Andrew

I found that with my newest girls Kooka. They slept on a table I have in the coop for a couple weeks before finally venturing onto the roosts with everyone else, they don't stick so close together any more
