Australia - Six states..and that funny little island.

That's a rather drastic way to avoid a haircut.

Think I'd prefer the haircut.

satay Congratulations on the bubs! I am pleased to hear that Zeus seems to be doing better.

Sorry to hear about your reception at the Vets though .. luckily it was the Receptionist and not the Vet .. she might be gone soon

I have had to deal with a couple of not so nice, money hungry Vets in my time and now that I have found a really nice one, I am sticking with them. It is not the window dressing that you have to worry about, it is what is inside. Having said that, with the varied diagnoses and Zeus’ getting better, that might be a concern also?

Wow! Patsy is going to be a mum?! I remember when she was born and how cute she was and now she is going to have a cutie of her own … time does fly!

Tee hee RodneyRooster extra treats for Hector today

It all a bit odd to me too Teila. This is the first time i have seen that vet as he is only new but at the time seemed to know what he was talking about. I know if i have concerns now i can ask for a second opinion from the uni. He showed me the xrays of where he said the things were but i am no vet. My cousin is a vet in brissy (on maternity leave) so I guess i could ask they be sent to her if i needed it to be. I guess i can only see what happens and hope he keeps improving.
I did feel like telling her that the money i have spent here in the last few days i have probably paid your wages for a few weeks lol.

satay .... glad to hear that Zeus is weight bearing a little on that leg.

And - I would definitely get a second opinion on the x-rays etc. It is your right to do so. All sounds a little strange to me ( the original diagnosis I mean ) but I am not a vet, so .... .

Continuing good luck with Zeus.

Deej211 ..... so sorry to hear of the loss of your little Maran boy. Chickens range between fragile and hardy ..... difficult to know sometimes which it is they are.

I have a question. My Mindy Araucana who has been laying soft-shell eggs, managed to get one out the other day that was properly coated well. She did not of course touch that. But she has now taken to laying egg-shells that are reasonable ( from picking up the remains ) except perhaps in one spot - which is vulnerable and she will have a go at that spot and eat the egg. I am a little concerned she has become an 'egg-eater'. On the other hand, it maybe that just a part of the egg is softer than the rest ( which it shouldn't be ) ... and it breaks open - she eats. Perhaps she is not pecking at her eggs. I do not have the time to sit out there for hours waiting for her to lay - and to catch the egg as it emerges.

So --- I am thinking I will get rid of the nesting box she has ( it's the corner of a long half open old cupboard ) and she kicks everything out to lay on hard masonite. No straw or wood shavings for Mindy ---- yet occasionally she will lay on the wood shavings on the floor of her coop. She has always been a weird chicken.

Yep, I agree with Annie, get a second opinion. Doctors and vets are not gods, they make mistakes like the rest of us ' mere mortals ' . I would also be putting my discontent about the receptionists lack of ' bedside manner ' in form of an email . Chances are she is studying to be a vet nurse and she should learn to deal with the one who pays the account as well as the patient .

Hey Anniebee, except for the Crows [mutter, mutter, mumble, mumble .. must resist urge to go off track] I, touch wood, have not had to deal with an egg eater.

I am pretty sure you mentioned that your gals get calcium [oyster shell?] and as you know I am no expert, but I wonder if she is eating the eggs that she can crack open for some extra calcium or something else that she is missing in her system which could also explain the soft shelled eggs.

But, if I remember rightly, we have already been down that path in the past?

Thanks everyone. I am not due to take him back for 2 weeks so will decide then if i take him back there or straight to th uni. It is thanks to the uni surgeon that we decide not to put him to sleep and give him a further chance. I am so pleased that i did not do that now regardles of whatever the outcome is in the future..
