The garden is loving all this sunshine. :)

Do you AI them yourself or get someone to do it? When we worked on a dairy years ago they wanted me to learn to AI a cow.. Ummm no thanks think I'll leave that one to hubby.

The semen had to come from WA and was very expensive. The mare needs to be scanned to see that she is actually ovulating and then sedated . The ' package ' missed the connecting flight from Melbourne , so the vet couldn't hang around for another 2 hours. Luckily a friend of ours who was working towards getting her AI ticket, was on hand to do the job. She does all of her own and has since been hired by a big stud in New Zealand.
Our youngster was 2 months premature, she is now a rising 5 year old. Very lucky girl.

Thanks, my garden is my refuge. Thought you'd like a grass pic.

Omg stunning. I love grass pics and of course any picture from your stunning property. I do have the tiniest bit of green grass since the rain we have had the last few days but it will never be able to compete with the green you all can achieve down south. I said to hubby the other day that I was thinking of getting a sign made up for our place with the title . The land that rain forgot. :lau

Beautiful Fancy. You are one talented gardener. :clap

Talented and dedicated. How on earth do you find the time @Fancychooklady to maintain it so beautifully? I struggle to keep my 900 m2 block neat and after 15 years still have half done garden beds sigh

So, Cilla was pecking at the oyster shell last night

Good news in that she might be returning to laying soon, bad news that in only 10-16 eggs we get to go through it all again

KiKi is still broody, mainly because the weather is not allowing me to put her in the broody breaker but I am locking her out of the nest box as much as possible. She is actually a sweet little broody and does not make life miserable for her flock mates, just wanders around chattering a lot when she cannot get to the nest. Besides the ninja chicken routine on the dustpan and brush in the mornings, she is easily managed. For this reason, no nickname for broody KiKi, I didn’t really like Countess KiKula but is was all I could come up with on short notice

I keep my garden ' low maintenance ' , lots of mulch to smother the weeds and the hedges only need to be trimmed once a year. Mowing the lawns is the most time consuming job, 5 hours a week in spring. I am quietly chipping away at the amount of lawn by creating new garden beds. With this time of year being so busy with the horses , it is sometimes hard to make time to ' stop and smell the roses ' , but there's nothing quite so relaxing as a glass of red in the garden. A garden is something for all to enjoy. When I am gone , it will still be here blooming and pleasing others. :)
This weekend we have a ' horse free ' day , so it's time to worm the goats and trim their hooves and send them down the back.
