Well, we have a busy day today … there is a pumpkin to be carved and a new BBQ to be purchased! We BBQ at least 3-4 times a week and our BBQ that we got second hand has seen better days, the burners are rusting etc and getting the cooking time just right is getting tricky.

My 27 year old son still lives at home because he spent many years studying and training. He started working 12 months or so ago and is now saving to buy his own place which I encouraged him to do as I did not want him to make the same mistake I did .. throw away money on rent and never have the opportunity to buy. Anyways, making good money and living at home, he is now saving heaps. He does pay some board but not a great deal as I really want him to have a good starting point and while not rolling in money, we get by OK.

Anyways, last night he says “I popped the board into your account plus some extra .. go and buy yourselves a new BBQ!” Wow .. stoked!

Lovely pix again satay .... I would so love to have a frizzle ( any kind would do ).... such pretty little chickens. My bet is a little pullet there - too pretty a face to be a cockerel !!

However, not at all sure that 'looks' comes into sexing chickens !!

And thanks for your congrats on hubbies retirement. He was understandably a bit emotional about it all. Used to drive a company car, and until he gets a new one for himself, will be gadding about in my little Hyundai Getz. Will have to draw up a roster I think !!

Yes, it would be lovely to raise a Golden Guide dog puppy. One tiny problem ... I wouldn't want to let it go

but I know I would have to.

Good morning Friends .. TGIF!

I do believe I live in a bubble

By now, you probably know me well enough to know that I do not wander far and I am happiest when at home. For weeks on end the only time I leave home is to do the grocery shopping on a Sunday; other than that, I am home all week.

Coincidence that two days after going into the office I now have blocked ears, sore throat and runny nose? I think not!

satay I will have fingers crossed for you and Zeus also but it does sound promising.

Anniebee congratulations to your hubby on retirement; raising a Guide Dog puppy sounds like a wonderful way to enjoy it.

Having over 9 weeks leave up my sleeve and not having had a holiday since last December, I have been told to take leave so I have two weeks at Christmas. I need to come up with a project to keep me amused during that time .. any bets on whether said project involves chickens?

I shared your limerick on my FB page only a few minutes ago and already have one ‘Like’ and a comment “Very good, very talented lady!” I thought you would like to know and I agree

Thank you Teila, for letting me know about the FB comments etc. Had a quick scratch around to find your page, but there are hundreds of 'teila's' to go through, & Bambrook Bantams did not come up at all. It occurred to me that your settings might be private - so I respect that entirely.

If you wish to add me to your friends list, it will have to come as an invite from you. I used to pride myself on only 37 friends - I now have 93, because I have involved myself in many conversations on there. So I have accepted people, but only from people I know who have recommended them. It's like a rolling snowball though - the larger group it gets, the bigger it can then become. So would completely understand if you don't want any more ' friends' on your list. I do have one friend I can talk chickens with on FB.

Meantime I was thinking of 'culling' a few, although I feel awful even at the thought.

Sure know your feelings on being a home body. Exactly the same here - never happier than when at home, looking after dog and chooks ( first !! ) ... and then hubby and myself. My housework comes a distant 6th or 7th ... which I really MUST do something pro-active about in the very near future. Having slowed down a lot ( permanent ankle injury and some other arthritis ) - it takes me so much longer to get around to dust, clean and tidy, not to mention having taken on the horrendous job of sorting out junk from keeps, and throwing out bags of stuff. I have completed only 2 rooms so far !! The more I do, the more I see has to be done. Think we all know that scene.

Thanks also for your congrats to hubby on his retirement. He was a bit emotional about it all.
And here's hoping for acceptance for raising a Guide puppy ... except I wouldn't want to let it go !! ... but know I would have to.

OMG! Can't believe they are back again! Won't bother looking on the home page till they can get rid of the spammers. Very frustrating for everyone, especially the moderators.

appps and locknest4 .... this intrigues me --- I have never ever seen anything in another language on these pages ? Yet so many have seen these spammers on BYC.

I am gathering here, they appear only on the home page ? so I went there, but could find nothing except a scrolling slide show thing of chickens, and some listed threads etc. I come exclusively to this thread only - first time in years that I have gone to the home page.

So - I am wondering what kind of computer ( Windows or Apple ) you are using - or is it iPad or an Android phone. Android phones get a lot of spamming if you don't have anti-virus protection to jump on them. Don't know about iPad ... I imagine it is protected.

Would be interested to know - and yes, the moderators must be really pleased - NOT.

I am gathering here, they appear only on the home page.   I come exclusively to this thread only, so that must be why.   

They are on every forum, I'm on my ipad so tend to click the view new post button and I get about 30 posts written in Chinese and korean. They get a new username then just spam the place. They are all new threads though, not replies to existing ones. Trouble is as there aren't many people here likely to read Chinese I'm not really sure why they bother lol

Eventually a mod gets on and deletes their account and it's gone for a while again. A few weeks ago they were reposting it all within an hour of it having been deleted. Must drive the moderators mad. I've got a forum I set up for our family history, I had to take it out of google search in the end because I was getting about 50 spammers a day applying for accounts.

Hello. I'm on the GoldCoast, back up in the hills a bit. I have 9 rescue hens (from a caged farm where they were to be killed as 18mths old). So they now have a lovely home, lots of love and care and in return they still gift me 5 eggs a day. I have 5 Rhode Island reds and 4 Australorps. They are each named after amazing women in history like Ammelia Earhart, Emmeline Pankhurst...and more. They hang around my office door in between dust bathing, pecking around and snoozing....now they have the life they deserve.

You will find many hours of enjoyment, good reading and excellent information here, Jules6hens.

Great to know you, and good on you for rescuing 9 very fortunate and lovely hens. Fantastic news.

Love the choices of names you have there too.

Looking forward to hearing more news from you and of your chickens.

iPad ? Must admit I only use that for Gmail, Facebook, iView and other TV catch ups, and for little downloaded games I play to amuse myself from time to time.

hmmm .... very interesting - and also about your probs with Google Search - I use Google as my browser on the PC, but do not permit any other Google apps and programmes - I don't like the idea of being 'taken over' by Google !! - could become overwhelming.

Im the same but its, email, facebook, BYC and other tv catchups lol I find it a lot easier to navigate BYC on the ipad, you just have to make sure you have mobile site selected down the bottom. I believe there is also an app you can download but I just use the normal webpage in mobile view.

Mind you the downside is its sitting next to you on the lounge so you get on way more than you should ;-)

In happier news our Dorking from the same hatch was trying out how to crow for the first time today. Already sounds more like a rooster than Dorian who has been crowing for nearly 3 months
