Australia - Six states..and that funny little island.

Hey Fancy, thank you.

While I am not naïve enough to believe that some people, business and industries are not disgustingly cruel to animals; it would be horrific if it was the norm.

I did wonder if there was not some sensationalism involved, especially with the Melbourne Cup just having been run.

I found it hard to believe that stables who love their horses and owners/trainers etc who I have seen break down and cry at the track when their horse is injured could let the horses be treated in such a way.  Also, I believe the blame should be on the knackery and their methods.

Great idea that they should be sponsoring.

Ouch RodneyRooster!  Hope you heal quickly.

My neighbour looked like he had dressed up for Halloween on the weekend .. he had a bandaged elbow a bandaged knee on one leg and a bandaged calf on the other leg.  Apparently he came off his push bike on Thursday, cracked a rib and took off quite a bit of bark .. went out for a ride on Friday and an over friendly dog who wanted to say hello was chasing him with owner running along behind.  My neighbour stopped so the dog could say hello and give the owner chance to catch up .. said dog was sooo happy, he enthusiastically tried to climb all over him, taking a heap of bark off his calf

I think someone may be trying to tell him to stay indoors for a while.

Thank you to those who posted ( appps, christieB and satay, others ? ) about problems negotiating BYC. I have 4 subscriptions, 3 of which I no longer follow ( Barnevelder, Araucana [American], and Welsummer ). As mentioned before, I follow only this forum --- " Australia - Six States - etc ". I get a daily update digest from BYC relating only to this ....... and occasionally about one other thread ( the Araucana ?? ). Have not managed my subscriptions too well, methinks.

satay - Thanks for the link to Bens thread ... will go and have a look there. He seems to be very popular.

Meantime, will just plod on - and hope that I find what I might be looking for at any given time ( rare ) .... and will continue to enjoy this forum, and all that it offers.

RodneyRooster - hope you mend very quickly and are up and about doing your thing with your beautiful chickens. Twisted ankles and other parts, are the absolute pits -- be patient with yourself, it might take a little while to heal. Ice is good on the affected area ( even if not hot and swollen ) for a while.

There's a product called "Elmores' Oil" which I swear by. A type of balm application, with a difference. Available at big supermarkets (?), health stores and chemists ( I believe ). Would NOT be without it for injuries, strains etc. No frills thing ... active ingredients are tea tree - and eucalyptus oils, mixed with olive oil and vanilla. So simple, but so good at what it does. Available in roll-on form as well as in a bottle. Gentle but oh so very effective.

Cheers ......

It could be. Main thing to check for at that age is blood. If you don't see any blood and they are not showing signs of illness you should be fine.

Well they are quite bouncy as usual but it does have a bit of an orange look to it. Not blood red though.

I noticed some sloppy, orangy poop the other day with my girls. It was on its lonesome among lots of more ordinary poop. They all seem well. I have been giving them small bits of people food, mainly so that they get used to coming to me when I call them. Maybe it's the pullet version of the sloppy, black poop that layers give you every seven days or so....
