Fancy mentioned her daughters' HSC exam results are not yet in ... and I wish her all the best of good fortune for excellent results. And good on her for taking a 'gap' year to concentrate on furthering her techniques in the show ring.

Which leads me to be a big boaster here. Can't help meself. I posted it on Facebook and all !!!

My grand-daughter, Astrid, sat her finals, early weeks of November. The results came in last week. She has always been an A grade student, but she didn't think she had done super well in these, her final exams before University.

Well heck - she DID .... do well. Very well ....

97.85% ... she averaged overall. Which is a superb result - amounts to high distinction - and I am so very very proud of her.
Her choice of uni. is Monash - an excellent teaching facility for sciences etc., and it is close to her home. She is still considering her choices of study --- but is leaning towards environmental science, and doing one other degree at the same time.

Just HAD to share that with everyone .... so very very proud - and her parents are over the moon.

Fancy such sad news about those young drivers. Devastating for their loved ones.

Our girls are now 19 weeks and I found this egg today in the back of the coop where all their poop drops (not in the nesting boxes).

The top half was soft and it had a mini egg in it. Hopefully the eggs will get bigger and harder once they start to lay regularly.

I put more sawdust into the nesting boxes to make them look more inviting and hope that they get the idea that that they are the places to lay in!

With our old hens we used to use straw in the boxes but have now switched to the saw dust on the recommendation of the breeder. There are also 2 dummy eggs in each of the laying boxes. They have free access to shell grit which they seem to enjoy flicking everywhere.

Treasure every minute. Our youngest just finished her HSC and two of her class mates were involved in a head on collision yesterday, only 8 days after getting her P's. Sadly one of the girls is deceased . Makes you realize that even those teenage shrugs and glares would be sadly missed.

They are 13, 15 and 17 and that was the 15 year old . Have never missed a Santa photo and never had one they complained about being there. I'm planning to see how long I can keep it going lol

Good for them. I was walking throught the shops a few weeks ago with my 19 year old and asked if he wanted a picture with santa. I got the normal eye roll yeah right mum answer

And proud you should be. Those are excellent results, but I am not expecting such high marks for our daughter. Sport is number one on her agenda.
We are having Christmas drinks in the garden today and with 35 degrees forecast I think there will be much swimming in the river.
I had a lone Wyandotte chick hatch yesterday and took it away from mum hoping that others might hatch and then I would move them all to a safer box, but as yet nothing. At 4 am I had to lay on the lounge with said chick to keep it warm and company. Happily chirping away and purring under my neck.

Haven't had her results as yet, but she is having a ' gap ' year to pursue her riding ambitions.
When I was 15 two of my class mates were killed in a car crash and it had a long lasting effect on me. Unfortunately things aren't looking good for the other girl, going to be a very sad Christmas for both families I fear.
Our 19 year old daughter went to Victoria to collect her car , after it had come accross by rail from WA. She sailed back on the spirit last night and said that on her road trip down from devonport all she could think of was Louise.

Such a sad thing to happen anytime of the year but at this time makes it seems just that bit more sad.

Good morning Friends

Chicken-clucky just wondering, when you had the same problem with Murphy, what did you do, if anything? Or did they just work it out?

Anniebee I could not agree more about the defensive driving course. Also, while I know it is not technically possible, a day riding with the Ambulance or Traffic Incident Response Team would be educational.

Locknest4 as the egg was found in the back of the coop with the poop, could it have been laid overnight? I know with a couple of my new layers it took them a while to get the ‘plumbing’ and timing right.

Their flicking the shell grit everywhere is interesting .. never seen that. Unless my gals are pecking at it, it is totally ignored.

While food and water is always outside the coop, I keep the oyster shell inside the coop. Anyone who is laying generally takes a couple of pecks at it before going up to roost for the night.

Fancy I hope you have a great day; that sounds like an excellent plan. Aaaaw, at keeping the little one company, I do hope that more hatch.

So, I didn’t totally rest yesterday .. I stripped down the pond filter and gave it a good clean and watered the garden. Of course, the girls helped me with the pond filter

"What ya doing?" .. "What's that?" .. "Need a hand?" .. "Can we eat that?"

Then I read a book .. it was only 300 or so pages but read the whole thing; haven’t done that for a very long time.

As thanks for being able to spend the whole day in the garden yesterday, the girls let me sleep in until 05:30am … they are like children, wear them out and they sleep in

Blondie’s comb appears to be healing nicely and appears to not be bothering her. The day in the garden was also helpful in that everyone else had better things to worry about than an injured comb in need of pecking

Good morning Friends 

Oh my Fancy that is just awful at any time of the year but if possible, even moreso so close to Christmas 

chicken-clucky that is a nice sized egg from Molly.

appps love the Santa picture tradition.

Plans for today? The bare minimum ..  today I am going to have a day off, in the garden with the gals.

I figure seen as hubby and son are both out of the house on Monday and Tuesday, those are the days I will mow the lawn and do the housework .. today and tomorrow, relaxing.

While not serious enough to separate her, we have our first ‘injury’ in the nearly three years I have had chickens.  I noticed on yesterday’s free range that Blondie’s comb did not look quite right and on closer inspection, someone has given her a good peck and she had some blood in her head feathers and at the base of her comb. 

Luckily it is in a spot that does not draw the attention of the others and she seems to be OK about it all but I will be keeping a close eye on her.

I suspect it was KiKi who is taking the ‘moving up the pecking order’ just a little too seriously.

Being on holidays means that I will be able to keep a closer eye on them and they will have more supervised free ranging so, while I am not impressed and KiKi is on thin ice, Blondie will have extra space to keep her distance and heal while I make sure no one makes it worse.

While even slightly entertaining the prospect of rehoming KiKi makes me so very sad, if she keeps this up I will have to consider it .. I hate seeing any of my girls being picked on and definitely do not like them being injured.  Also, KiKi is the noisiest and most demanding so yep, thin ice   

Normally they will sort it out themselves if you give them a chance as you said some can take the moving up a little to serious. I have an answer for you.. Get some more pekins I have a couple of babies here with your name on them Hey, she wont have as far to move up the order that way Seriously though i hope they sort it out soon for you.
