Tee hee chicken-clucky puppies and kittens!  [I hope I remember correctly and it was your photograph earlier with the kittens]

I would love one but the cats and chickens definitely overrule me … they are cute though.

Yeah that's me haha

We also have a foal at foot and chicks due in the next two weeks

Teila, I think we may be able to give your broodies, particularly Cilla, a bit of competition soon. I went outside this morning to find Pearl flat over the eggs with a feather firmly gripped in her beak - as a warning perhaps?

Aaaaw, that is adorable .. love the feather! She could be offering it as a trade "I give you this, you let me have babies?" Pearl is a very pretty hen!

Not at all Annie. Happy to share what I managed to glean from our equine vet. The meconium was passed without any problems but as we had a 4 hour period before he began to suckle his bloods were taken to test his IgG ( immunoglobulin ) levels. The antibodies passed through the colostrum from mare to foal are essential for the foals survival and if they are too low the vet will be back tomorrow to administer plasma.
Diarrhoea is common in newborns but severe diarrhoea can lead to dehydration and death. Strongyls parasite can also be passed through the mares milk and cause diarrhoea . Yesterday I decided that it was better to pay the vets after hours fees than to wait , and I am glad we did. We've all had some much earned sleep last night.
His navel chord was dipped in iodine and everything looks good there, but the penicillin shots are just a precautionary measure. Cas is not very happy with the sticks in the rump though.

we are hoping that his little tummy settles down as he was a little colicy yesterday.
He is certainly a little ' time waster ' , nothing got done around here over the weekend.

Last night . All tuckered out.

Lovely photo there Fancy .... so many of the little ones just stretch out flat on grass or wherever, and sleep - a lot, it seems. Colostrum - superb stuff for all little mammals, and for us as babes.

So glad that you have the Vet doing all the right things for little Castiel. You must be more de-stressed now. Sure hope the colicky business goes away very quickly, too.

By today you will have results from the immunoglobin ( and no doubt other ) tests from blood. Hope all is well, and it is so good to see him readying to suckle in that photograph.

Will be very interested in his progress Fancy ....

Cheers ....

Good morning Friends :frow

appps good thinking on the chunnel!  Yep, we have some hot days predicted this week but not as bad as yours, I think our max one day may be around the 34 deg.

Fancy thank you for the interesting but scary Hawk info.  As I mentioned, I have not seen Hawks around here but also comforted myself with the fact that our yard was not really a good spot for take off and landing; I will now be extra vigilant now I no longer have that comfort.  Having said that, if the stories about Crows being a Hawk deterrent are fact, with all the Crows around here, no chance of seeing a Hawk ;)

I hope that Cas is on the improve and yep, definitely better to be safe than sorry.  Poor little guy does look all tuckered out in that photo which is absolutely adorable!

Anniebee oooh yeah, you do not mess with Dusty!  As we do not have a rooster in the flock, Dusty has sort of taken on that role in that she breaks up fights and protects her friends.  She does, however, draw the line at sharing food or feeding them ;)

The Crows were a no show this morning so hopefully that beating and subsequent Crow nattering among themselves has resulted in them moving on for a while.

cwrite while a bit of a problem child, your little visitor is cute!  Nice egg basket!

Tee hee devinandfeather, as always, the goings on at your place makes me tired just reading about it ;)   Good luck with the hatches.  Sorry, I have zip experience with Turkeys.

Tee hee satay I think it is cute that you have an over achieving budgie.

It is official, Cilla is no longer broody and we are back to no broodies .. for the time being :fl

Congrats on being broody free. I think I might have 3, but will know tommorrow. I also got more than 1/2 dozen eggs from my flock today, for the first time ever, so I must have some new layers. Will have to try and get outside on wed or third to figure out who they are.
