Australia - Six states..and that funny little island.

I need help too.

I have a dorking chick with one leg that looks splayed. It hatched sat/sun. I've never had a chick with splayed legs so I'm going by google pics. Anyway it is only one leg and looks splayed when "it goes out from under her" when she moves quickly. She can pull it up under her and stand normally - although hunched and she can walk normally on it slowly. She shows no distress when I examine it and I can move it every way it should without a problem and again she shows no distress.

Should I tape it?

I would , otherwise it will continue to rotate outwards. I use a bandaid , they seem to stay put better.

Looks great, hopefully the ' garden bandits ' won't find it.
I love this idea with pallets.

What a BRILLIANT idea. Sadly, I sent back from whence they came - about 4 good solid pallets last year.

Won't do that again methinks. What do you use as a base to the pallet shelf bottoms ? ..... wood, or a strong plastic, with tiny holes in it for drainage ?

Would love to know as I really would like to try this with vegies and small garden flowers - as you have here. A small vegie might be capsicum, chives, parsley or herbs of any type. My parsley is currently in seeding mode, in a pot - which I bend inwards so they drop their seeds into the pot and new growth happens. Have always had about 9 months of beautiful fresh parsley that way.
This is not only a great suggestion, but very pleasing to the eye as well.

Cheers ....

Sorry, I'm doing all my picture posting from an external device while I'm on a PC. (Normally on the phone or iPad)

Remember the black and white evil birds discussion? It turns out I have 3 black and white crows in one family group. Or should I say "had"?

Two are juvenile and one is a parent.

Here's a photo of a couple of them getting fed by the all black parent.

In this pic one looks mangy. A few weeks later I found it and it couldn't fly. It could still hop away from me though. I haven't seen any of them since.

Good heavens ... have never seen any crow in the south down here, that looks like that ... but I do believe in them now ( from Teila and yourself ).

Guess it's a bit like magpies - the white backs ( Victoria and southern states ) and the black backs ( NSW and upwards ), although there are variations to that theme. !! But most of the white-backs live in the southern most areas of Australia. I have never seen a black backed magpie in Victoria, but have seen plenty in NSW.

And so it must be, the differences in crows - north and south ?

We live and learn ........

Hi Annie, these were at a local cider house. They had actually used 2 pallets to make these . Cut one up to infil the planters and make up the base. You could however just staple heavy weed mat on the inside with drainage of course. :)

This is Honey on the day we brought her home. How quiet is that?

My two POL. I paid $10 each

From the same breeder. $2.50 each - the one in the back is the cross.

How could I leave them behind? I could have been strong.

The purebred is growing into a more beautiful girl than the POL's. I must take more pics.

OMG I need more D'uccles in those colours right now! Of course you couldn't leave those little ones behind, they needed a home to be fussed over and adored. That is their sole purpose. How big is a fully grown D'uccle anyway, in comparison to other bantam chooks? or regular sized fowl? My Beatrice has some growing to do still. Looking forward to her tail feathers coming in atm.

Thanks for the feedback so far guys, I'll make sure they have plenty of room like always. I might have to isolate troublemakers and use noise diversions. I'm hoping Iris will start standing up for herself more against Annabelle in a month or two as she hits maturity properly. I may just have to keep the bantams separate.

Done. But I don't think it will ever speak to me again. It's the first time I've seen it distressed. Afterward that is - it didn't care while I was applying the tape. And I used a bandaid too. The tape I used first didn't stay longer than a second. When I put her down she huddled behind a dish and rolled onto her side panting. She was fine before I left her but I will be checking on her through the night.

Thanks.

Interestingly she only has four toes on that foot while the other is normal with five. I hadn't noticed looking at the hip and leg. I noticed when the fifth toe kept getting in the way.

These are the only ones I've ever seen and I've been way further north. I thinks it's just an oddity that seems hereditary.

Oooo what colours do you have? I'm sure everyone else knows but I missed it. That little crossbreed turned out to be a boy - that silky in him tricked me. Any way old enough to crow his head off and he he could still (as can the pure D'uccle girl) squeeze through my 50mm sq mesh wire I use for the run. Mine are much smaller than silkies. Seriously I do tell people they're pigeons. Particularly since they fly a bit.

They fly unbelievably well for their size. I found bitty many times on top of the ring neck aviary.
