Australia - Six states..and that funny little island.

OMG I need more D'uccles in those colours right now! Of course you couldn't leave those little ones behind, they needed a home to be fussed over and adored. That is their sole purpose. How big is a fully grown D'uccle anyway, in comparison to other bantam chooks? or regular sized fowl? My Beatrice has some growing to do still. Looking forward to her tail feathers coming in atm.

Thanks for the feedback so far guys, I'll make sure they have plenty of room like always. I might have to isolate troublemakers and use noise diversions. I'm hoping Iris will start standing up for herself more against Annabelle in a month or two as she hits maturity properly. I may just have to keep the bantams separate.

They are tiny hence my lav mottle belgian being called bitty. She is so iddy bitty. She is the smallest of all the bantams i have and makes a pekin look quite big. What they lack in size they make up for in personality.
The roosters i have found to be true gentlemen. Will let the girls eat first and love to strut their stuff. I feel sorry for poor rodney at the moment as he has just started to strut his stuff and anni and teila give him the stink eye as to say really is that alll you have. Poor rod.

Thanks everyone for the kind comments and encouragement with my stealth/raised vegie garden. It definitely is fun and rewarding and I have plans to expand some more.

MyHaven I did not know about possums attacking the vegies. We have a few possums also but, so far, they have left the vegies alone. They do tend to hang out in the Mango Tree and during Mango season it is not uncommon to find half eaten Mangoes on the ground. Between the possums and the bats it is a good thing I am not keen on Mangoes.

LuckysMum Congratulations!!

The day I do not get excited about a hatch is the day I give up chickens! It is exciting and definitely something to be enjoyed.

Appps Bad bunny! I am so pleased you found him

bargain and so pretty!

My money is still on my previously mentioned juvenile Crows having some white feathers. I am kinda sad they have moved on because I would have been interested to know if they eventually became all black.

Fizzybelle I have never had to move my gals so unfortunately I can not offer any help there but I think, as you mention, the move and unclaimed new territory may help calm things down a little.

I agree with Fancy on the pecking order in every flock and also that every flock tends to differ.

As I posted some time back, the pecking order here is a little mixed up. I have noted also that, of late, Cilla, the matriarch, while still matriarch is probably the quietest and best behaved of the flock. She just potters around the place and appears to be leaving the actual matriarch chores to Dusty.

Here #1 pretty much ignores all the goings on around her but does put anyone who gets in her space in their place and everyone respects her authority. #2, Dusty, definitely does not confront #1 but is comfortable in her #2 spot and only doles out the discipline if necessary. Besides Cilla, all the others seem to look to Dusty for guidance. #6 [bottom] pretty much stays out of everyone’s way and takes out her frustration on the Doves

But #’s 3, 4 and 5 squabble frequently … #5 picks on #3 but not on #4. #3 picks on #4 and #4 picks on #5

So, I kinda see it as our top and bottom pretty much settled and comfortable with their lot and those in the middle, squabbling to either go up or not drop down.

Anniebee good to hear you got your computer problems sorted for now.

Good morning everyone. Very eggscited 2 australorp chicks hatched just now waiting on 4 more. Sorry I'm just excited, don't get excited feedback from my family. Haha
Except my granddaughters but there not here today to enjoy and get excited with me.
I have been trying to integrate my 7 week old australorp with my 4 weeks old australorps and silkies. I put a screen door between them and every time the little ones get near the big one its pecks them through the screen. I'm worried about putting them in together. My husband is building an  extension to our coop to put them all in. Thanks

that sounds so exciting! I have had some Silkies hatch the other week!the best way to stop chickens from pecking the other is to seperate them until they can fend for them selfs in my experience too!

I need help too.

I have a dorking chick with one leg that looks splayed. It hatched sat/sun. I've never had a chick with splayed legs so I'm going by google pics. Anyway it is only one leg and looks splayed when "it goes out from under her" when she moves quickly. She can pull it up under her and stand normally - although hunched and she can walk normally on it slowly. She shows no distress when I examine it and I can move it every way it should without a problem and again she shows no distress.

Should I tape it?

I would. It will correct quickly if done early. If it's other issues u will know soon

Oooo what colours do you have? I'm sure everyone else knows but I missed it.

That little crossbreed turned out to be a boy - that silky in him tricked me. Any way old enough to crow his head off and he he could still (as can the pure D'uccle girl) squeeze through my 50mm sq mesh wire I use for the run. Mine are much smaller than silkies. Seriously I do tell people they're pigeons. Particularly since they fly a bit.

That "what colour" question was for Fizzybelle.

The possums eat everything. Even fruit on my bench if I leave a window open too far. They ate all my strawberries, parsley etc.

The crows, I think would keep the white as one of the parents had white feathers for the 12 months or so since I first noticed it.
