Done. But I don't think it will ever speak to me again. It's the first time I've seen it distressed. Afterward that is - it didn't care while I was applying the tape. And I used a bandaid too. The tape I used first didn't stay longer than a second. When I put her down she huddled behind a dish and rolled onto her side panting. She was fine before I left her but I will be checking on her through the night.

Interestingly she only has four toes on that foot while the other is normal with five. I hadn't noticed looking at the hip and leg. I noticed when the fifth toe kept getting in the way.

A serious but sounds like a weird question. Do dorkings have five claws / toes ?? Even went out to check my girls. :/ They have three at the front and one smaller at the back. Only ask as you mention ' normal with five ' ? Do hope yr chicken is better. And no longer stressed. Cats tend to roll on their sides when bandage / weight, even a little is applied. Always thought it had something to do with balance. But cats and chooks are a tad different !!

As for possums, they eat anything that is not covered. Must get me another large plastic grey owl. They do help.

Goodness --- the darling little ' 5 toes '. A good enough photo to see the feet of your little girl.

Had a quick Google for other breeds that have 5 toes - and there's apparently no more than 2 or 3.

Someone mentioned the Silkie, but as they were speaking from North America somewhere, anything is possible !! My own little Silkie had 4 toes, and was a true, pure bred Silkie ( Australian bred that is ).

Hope the owl works for you ... tends to make the possums wary, as owls are known to attack, especially the little ring-tails.

Favorelles have five toes too. My silkie has five toes too as do all my silkie cross frizzles. Your girl might have just missed that little bit in her makeup.

That "what colour" question was for Fizzybelle.

I only have the one D'uccle at the moment, Beatrice (or just Bea).



She wasn't sold to me as any particular colour, and as some patterns don't emerge until the bird gets older, I don't know if this is her final colouring or not. Is there a chance she could be a mille fleur? Or if not should I use that as an excuse to adopt one? She's just turned three months old. If she is just a black and gold variety, that's fine with me (it's actually really good camouflage for her, as the grass currently varies from shades of pea green to a dead crunchy brown). She's little, but very big on personality. Watching her run is hilarious, those feathers are like oversized clown shoes. This little Willie Wagtail that's been hanging around lately makes her look huge though!

And here's a pic of little Agnes, now she's officially become a hen. She was hard at work this arvo ( I thought it was too late in the day to lay an egg, apparently not). Only taken one rdo so far.

Bea Is lovely and so is your Silkie. I have only just got my d'uccles so do not know much about them or their colours. I like to have a couple bantams - apart from the fact they are nice, I like to have smaller eggs on hand for when I want to split a 1 egg recipe. So when the fox killed my two I went gumtree shopping. I couldn't find a Silkie but found the little grey d'uccle. Once I got her and saw how quiet, and interesting her personality was I had to get another for her to be friends with. Now I've decided to put together a bantam pen that is more secure and full of them. They just treat the big girl run fence as if it's not there anyway. So I can't talk about excuses.

MyHaven, I hope you do get the opportunity to adopt a Silkie, they're adorable, and a bantam pen sounds like a wonderful idea Sorry you've had a fox problem, I haven't so far, but wandering dogs or cats are a concern of mine. Lot's of people just don't keep their animals indoors at night around here unfortunately.
