Australia - Six states..and that funny little island.

The local council says that 16 is the limit anywhere inside the council area. Our block is a large corner block and would run about 25 comfortably.
At the minute I have :
13 mature birds
12 dec hatch frizzles.
I thinks there's 16 from Jan hatch- I haven't been able to count them.
8 recently hatched chicks( was nine but one was dead in coop this morn)
And 7 developing eggs in incubator for Easter HAL.

Your just over the limit ;)

Oh no poor Carl.:hugs I hope she is better soon.

Well she's a little better it seems as this morning she came out and tried to peck some grass through the fence. Normally she is straight to the dirt just inside the gate and eating that. Silly thing, think the dirt is making her feel blocked so she's eating dirt to get rid of it

Will give her a few more days in the bunny cage to be sure though!

On super annoying news, left her probiotics on the bench yesterday morning instead of putting back in the fridge arghhhhhh

Goooood morning folks

potato chip glad I could help with the names

cwrite yeah, some cats can be very sensitive .. Syba definitely suffers from separation anxiety when his Dad goes away.

When we first got chickens our routine was a bit out of whack and Syba ended up at the Vet due to very frequent vomiting … turns out that was his reaction to having his routine out of whack and he prefers to be fed at the same time every day

Sprinkles is a cutie!

LuckysMum your bubs and adults are beautiful! So is Bear!

Aaaw appps I am so sorry to read that Carl is under the weather again.

Just joining in on the Council limit discussion … 6 allowed here and 6 I have. As I have mentioned before, that is for my peace of mind as I know that if I have more than I should I will fret that I will be sprung. Also, I think 6 is a good number for our yard. We were only ever going to have 2 lol

So, post broody, KiKi is moulting and boy oh boy is she moulting … frizzle feathers as far as the eye can see

Moulting is definitely messing with their system .. Dusty laid a soft shell on Sunday night and while having a hard shell, Crystal dropped an overnighter from the roost that same evening. When you are only getting may be one or two eggs a week, seeing two go to waste is sad. Eggs were on the shopping list on Sunday and yep, after paying for them, they were scrambled and given to the girls for breakfast this morning

I'd still use them, you can get powdered probiotics that don't need to be refrigerated. I have also used my yakult , in a pinch. :)

I did give them to her this morning, but they are definatly a refrigerate one because the vet asked if I was going straight home when she gave them to me because they had to go straight in the fridge.

This is a warning about combining the use of mobile devices, gumtree and train travel. This practice can lead to ... well you know what I'm going to say.

Here are the two leghorns I DID NOT buy on the way to work on the train yesterday.

And this is the speckled Sussex and black Australorp I DID NOT buy on the train on the way home.

Lucky I DID NOT get them. I would have had to do a mad scramble for quarantined accommodation. I do have a weakness for cheap birds in need of urgent re-homing.

Lucky I'm allowed 20. I'm only up to 20. Not counting the chicks in the brooder, the 5 roos I'm growing out, the brahma's I'm hatching and the Sicilian buttercups I want to get.

Even though you told me about this yesterday it is still so funny. If hubby finds out you can buy chickens on a train i will be banned from one for ever :lau

Apps, sorry Carl's still having a rough time of it lately. Good that she's going for the grass now and not dirt. I had my third runny nose, Beatrice this time. All cleared up though she had to try 3 different meds to get something that worked this time. This summer has been my girls first and it's been rough on them. I think everyone's looking forward to autumn (when it decides to show up).

Oh my god, I hate moving. Still cleaning up the old house, and still need to make a new coop for the girls, but we've semi-settled in. The girls are enjoying the backyard, it's smaller, but still quite roomy with lots of cover and dirt and scrub to explore. Unpacking is going to take some time (and motivation) though.

Have some pics of my bantam crew in their new digs. Here's my pekin Esmè ( who's now 5 1/2 months) enjoying the garden. Her feathering gets prettier every day. She's a sweetie, then again all by feathered babies are. They've all already destroyed the small patch of crocus that were in bloom when we arrived

Bea, whose tail feathers have come in!

And Agnes who doesn't stand still for long so I only really got her butt.
