[Still waiting for a response from Council on my review request]

‘Snakes on a Plane’ … ‘Chickens on a Train’; Tee hee MyHaven I got a good chuckle from your story

Beautiful chickens at that!

Hey, when you find out how those “round things” turned up, can you please share

lol

Fizzybelle yep, moving is high on the list of stressful things we do and up there with getting married and changing jobs.

Your girls are adorable!

Fancy I am in awe .. I struggle to manage 6. I can only echo all the sentiments already shared .. you are an inspiration and we are so very lucky to have you as a friend, even if only virtual for some of us.

appps how is Carl doing today?

Not much news of note from Bambrook Bantams .. this weekend we start gathering the materials for the new coop/run .. very exciting!

Crystal and KiKi celebrated their 1st birthday yesterday.

It is funny that I do not forget the girls birthdays but nearly forgot hubby’s lol … In my defense, their birthdays are recorded on the egg spreadsheet which, while not being opened daily at the moment
wink.png
, is still referenced frequently .. may be I should pop his birthday on there also

Teila --- this is a little out of left field .... but I cannot for the life of me, find the MyHaven 'snakes on planes and chickens on trains' stories. How far back do I need to go ?

You have me totally intrigued. And here's me thinking I was up to date with ALL posts on BYC. !!! hmmm ... apparently not
hmm.png

And yes, add hubbys' birthday to the chook spreadsheet - in fact add ALL birthdays to it - would save a lot of time methinks .....

Might be joining the building craze too but it's going to be a combined avairy and bunny house for us. Our little pigeons dad has decided it's time he got his own place lol

And here is poor Carl this morning

As you can see, everything seems to still be going straight through her. And she has already drunk 500ml of water so far today.

Totally agree with Fancys' advice. .... ( but I am not familiar with this type of problem ). Am wondering if wheat bran might be of some help ? Offered slightly wet - with a few greens sprinkled to make it appetising and interesting to her. A large teaspoonful every other day ???? ..... just a thought.

I do so feel for you - and for poor little Carl. She is hanging in there - but a vet could advise if it is a kidney or crop problem, or not. .

Chooks are not easily dealt with are they, when it comes to illness of some kind. But then we all know that I guess ?

Good luck to you and to Carl.

Well I know who not to phone when I need talking down.

Don't they just get up to the most amusing antics?

The seller hasn't contacted me yet. The suspense is hard to bare.

Lol, they have so much personality crammed into that little package. Probably best I don't even think about gumtree.I don't have an account, I feel that's wise. Fingers crossed the seller gets back to you asap!

Aww no :( But don't give up, you'll find some :)

Btw, does anyone have any advice for repelling flies in the yard? They're really bad here, and are getting worse. I rake and hose the grass to break up fresh droppings as much as I can, but chickens just keep on pooping, which attracts the flies.

Thanks potato chip and satay I will give it more time.
It's taken quite a while for my little girls to "get a clue" and they started older than yours and are now quite grown up and big. If you think of it like you've got a crawling baby on your hands and just have to wait for it to stand up and toddle and then to walk unaided, etc etc you can be more patient. The trouble is that they come out of the egg looking like chooks, it's harder to realise that they aren't the same as the big, grown-up chooks.

Having said that, I don't think chickens can see very well, or have any sense of direction (or something). They always seem to have trouble with the aviary mesh, and can't seem to figure out how to go around things that "appear" in front of them (that could have something to do with the complete mess my backyard is at the moment.)

My little little chooks (2 of the 3) got out of their yard today and were free-ranging the backyard. sigh. They need the covered yard and the other girls are in there. sigh. I can swap them over, but they can't stay swapped over because the sleeping quarters aren't enough for the big girls in the yard, I'd have to move them back for bedtime. sigh. And this is where you end up building more houses and more runs. sigh.

Sounds like you need to break the fly breeding cycle. You could try some sticky or other non toxic traps about. I sprinkle ag lime about as a preventative. It dries the poop out so they cant breed and sweetens the soil. I have to reapply after rain. Once you break the cycle you should find preventative is enough to control them.

I'd be interested in other ideas.

You could get a Muscovy duck though. I understand they hunt them. - just joking.

This is a warning about combining the use of mobile devices, gumtree and train travel. This practice can lead to ... well you know what I'm going to say.

Here are the two leghorns I DID NOT buy on the way to work on the train yesterday.

And this is the speckled Sussex and black Australorp I DID NOT buy on the train on the way home.

Lucky I DID NOT get them. I would have had to do a mad scramble for quarantined accommodation. I do have a weakness for cheap birds in need of urgent re-homing.

Lucky I'm allowed 20. I'm only up to 20. Not counting the chicks in the brooder, the 5 roos I'm growing out, the brahma's I'm hatching and the Sicilian buttercups I want to get.

Hey Anniebee .. this is the 'chickens on the train' story I mentioned having a good chuckle at.
