Australia - Six states..and that funny little island.

Thanks, it's an interesting (to me) coincidence that both my "belters" are australorp.  I thought Grace was getting murdered the way she was carrying on.  She's also smaller than her "sister" Marcy, yet she's LOUD.

Babies can have lucerne, older piggies and rabbits have oaten or meadow.  The lucerne is too high in calcium for adults.  It's ok when they are babies, and use it for growing.

Thats right, Great looks like I've found a piggy expert. That could come in handy. :)

On the egg song.
Before the dynamics in the flock changed the were collectively loud. One would lay and start then they all would yell over the top of each other. It sounded like " I laid an egg, I laid an egg" "no she didn't it was me, it was me!""No it wasn't, it was me!" "No. I laid the egg, it's mine, it,s mine!" "No, I laid an egg!" "Hey I laid one too... " "me too, me too.....!" They each chimed in by the end. And it was loud.

The current group, consisting of some of the same girls sing solos or duets. Two of the current and old group are Australorps

I find the change interesting.

Had to laugh ... your girls loving the phenomenon of 'rain' !!   ....  bad that it's been so dry.

The big ranging lake not far from you, must be way way down by now.  ( looked it up on Google maps ).

Cheers ....

Wivenhoe? It's down a little but not as bad as you would think really for how little rain we have had. We have a lot of dams out this way and most have blue green algea problems from the lack of rain. i'll try to grab some picture of my lawn or lack there of it today so you lucky people can enjoy the brown crunchieness that i do each day :lau

Ok this afternoon I let the girls free range and tonight I only had to call them back into their run!!! SO happy!!!! These three chicks are AWESOME!! Such well behaved little ladies. :celebrate
Thanks everyone for your suggestions on mites. I think I am going to leave it as there really isn't any real reason to think the chick have them other then I had a small bug on me. I used an entire can of surface spray on the coop before putting them into and so I think it was just a coincidence but will keep you all posted. x

:celebrate May i borrow your girls to give my belgians some lessons :lau

Now you can all see why i love and miss green grass so much. A few pictures from the land that rain forgot.

I'll send you some rain as soon as we get some.
We had a burial ceremony for our grandchildrens 17 year old cat last night. The kids laminated pictures of tigger and lit candles for him. We decided to put him close to his sister under the recently planted flowering cherry. It was very touching but I found myself thinking , now I need to keep this tree alive, the ground was like grey dust. That's one tree in the garden that will be getting some ' extra ' attention.

Oh how sad about the cat :hit 17 is a good age though. It's terribly sad when you are awaiting rain with fingers crossed as well.

There's a lot of talk about egg songs... what are they? I haven't heard of them before this chat. Is it a specific name given to the kinda half-crowing a chook does after laying an egg... or is this just a nickname for something?
