Australia - Six states..and that funny little island.

Well we are getting things done between showers. The fences are up and the ' Apster ' is longing for his grass paddock. The silkies are ducking for cover when it rains but enjoying the breaks in the clouds , sunshine !

What a beautiful silkie. I just went out to mine and fed them some bread.

Poor silkies keep getting beaten to the bits of bread by the Australorps the poor things can’t see unless I drop it straight in front of them. But they are so beautiful. I want some more.
At the moment we get about 4 eggs a day from 7 ISA’s they don’t seem to have a real molt. I’m not sure if it’s the breed or maybe our mild weather. They dropped a few feathers a few weeks ago and stopped laying for a week and that was it. The teenagers aren’t molting either.

I hope Apster is doing well now.

I’m having a lot of trouble reading and posting on this site. It keeps crashing and reloading. I’m writing this on word but having trouble pasting.
I’ve been trying Internet Explorer and chrome. Both are a pain. Is anyone else having problems

Hello everyone, thank you for the replies. Unfortunately my quarantined rooster and hen are not getting better. It's been a real trial, I've been researching and trying 'cures' for various diseases that mimick Marek's. Saying that I can't conclusively say it is Marek's without a lab analysis/autopsy. So I'm going to put them down today. I'm not naming my chooks anymore.

I'm so sorry I don't know enough to advise you but my heart goes out to you.

It's distressing to have to make such decisions , but sometimes there is no other option. :hugs
So sorry that you have had to deal with this awful situation. :(

I love my silkies. I do trim the bonnets on those that are having difficulty getting from A-B . I have 4x white silkie cockerels that come and get me in the morning for breakfast. My hubby laughs at how they herd me down to the girls. :D

Good morning folks :frow

Kat79 just my humble opinion but that egg looks like a new layer to me .. may be just a bit too big for an oops .. congrats!

Congrats on the egg drought break also Sam!

Fancy, yet more chickens who owe you their lives ;)  Good stuff and lucky chickens.

Fizzybelle thank you!  The naughty chicken pics were funny :lau

satay love the picture and yep, that is definitely me! Fist pumps and happy dancing :ya

KiKi was the only one laying so the last egg here was the 20[SUP]th[/SUP] of April, just before she passed away.

Cilla has not laid since the 19[SUP]th[/SUP] of January
Since the 10[SUP]th[/SUP] of January Dusty has laid 6 eggs
Blondie has not laid since the 20[SUP]th[/SUP] of January
LuLu has not laid since the 13[SUP]th[/SUP] of December and
Crystal stopped on the 3[SUP]rd[/SUP] of April

In April I got a grand total of 16 eggs from 6 chickens

I can sooo relate to the “My owner had to buy eggs at the GROCERY STORE because I’m a freeloading slacker” BUT on a positive note, no one is broody lol :lau

Wow no Broodies for a change. I'm up to a week without any Broodies now, I don't think I've gone for 2 since I got the last lot in November. I've been lucky enough that o have only run out of eggs 1 time this year. I'm back to about 50 in storage collecting 4 a day at the minute. i have 3 pullets just starting to lay, I think thier taking turns. There are at least 4 more from the same hatch. So far none of my young ones are showings signs of being boys. I haven't seen any of mine moult yet, but my oldest is only 18months.

So very sorry to hear you have to do that - ..... but it is best for them. Not an easy decision at all ....

Thoughts are with you ....

Seeing your list here Teila, I don't feel so bent out of shape, about ' so few eggs since January '. Hopefully broodiness for your girls has been forgotten for the winter months anyway.

My 3 girls, most likely during one of their evening conferences at the separating fences, decided on who would moult and when - in order to make life far more easy for Mum.

Yeah right.

Mandy started it all off, and as usual dropped 2 feathers per day ( soooo slow ) ... followed by Mindy who could fill a mattress, and who has decided that she made a grand mistake and forgot her head and hackles --- so started dropping more pillow fulls from that area after finishing the first moult. The feathers there are now growing so ??? .... maybe a blue egg within a month or so ? .... and two days ago Molly RIR began a good 'orderly' moult. She always does things well. So since January, we would have had approx. 1 dozen eggs, most of which were I think from Molly ( probably a couple ( darker ) from Mandy - at completion of her moult which she began early in the year - but no more from her since 2 weeks back - she might have decided to have another slow moult, as there are some fine grey under belly feathers mixed in with Mollys' neat red feathers.

) .

All egg production is now at a shuddering halt.

Fizzybelle -

Had a great laugh at the naughty chook pics. Chook poo not good for dogs, especially fresh stuff, ( but ya can't convince a dog about that !! ). Typical that it would be a Golden Retriever sitting next to the chook .... hilarious and spot on that one. Very funny posts those.

Tryinglittleleg and Aussie1chook. - Welcome to the thread - I am sure you will enjoy every moment of it.

LuckysMum .... I have a lot of 'shockwave crashes and reloads' on this site too. Chrome seems to be the worst. I know others have had similar problems. Guess you've discovered not to reload while in the middle of typing a post .... I learned that one the hard way.
A few other little problems crop up from time to time. At the moment it is behaving itself.

........Cheers all -
