Australia - Six states..and that funny little island.

Morning. It's a shame that people think that animals are just commodities and put on this earth to serve us. There is currently a saga unfolding here where a dog was picked up in Hobart by a couple holidaying from Victoria. They decided to take the dog home with them on the boat and a week after decided that they didn't want it and surrendered it to the pound in Frankston . Why on earth they didn't take it to a vet in Hobart and at least attempt to reunite it with its owner is beyond me. The lovely people at mangalore kennels have now purchased the dog and are flying her back home, at their expense. Let's hope this poor pup finds a loving home. In my opinion the couple should pay for her flights, being as they stole her.

Really? Apparently being on holiday also meant having the brain switched off! Where is the mega eye roll emoticon when you need it?!

If they are pet owners, I wonder how they would feel if their loved pet accidentally got out of the yard etc, got picked up by tourists and then dumped in a pound in a different state?!

That's hilarious! Twin chickens hehe. I haven't seen many around either. Shadow is slowly getting used to me (and the kids). She is noisy, nosy and I love her

When we purchased Dusty [over 3 years ago now] she was at a feed store, in a cage all by herself because apparently she was being picked on by the other hens. When I took her home the store assistant said that I could take her back if she did not fit in .. I wonder if that offer still stands?! Lol .. kidding!

She has progressed in leaps and bounds from when she first got here and a quivering mess that you could not approach. She trusts us now but still does not like being picked up or touched.

You may have picked up in some of my earlier posts that Dusty is the protector of flock? She is the one who made the Crows give up landing in the garden because she bashed a couple of them up. She also ran in the direction of a stray cat when the others were running away from it, she was going to take it on!

While Cilla is actually the matriarch, she seems to let Dusty keep the princesses under control. If there are any squabbles Dusty breaks them up. Cilla is the only one who will tell Dusty off and if Cilla tells one of the others off, they run to Dusty cos she is everyone's friend.

Word of warning, I am not sure if it is a Dusty thing or a Langshan thing but be prepared for some very serious moults

Yep chicken math struck big time here but our bantam chicken family is fun and I am happy with the number we have now :)

Pretty chickens. Your Daisy looks so much like bidda when she was young. I thought she was a pure lavender until her mottles showed after she was 12 months old.

Thanks again everyone for the well wishes, I passed them onto Agnes during a cuddle. She's been super grumpy today, all because she wanted to lay an egg but wasn't happy for some reason with the nest boxes, and spent about an hour going back and forth and complaining to me about them. I put in some extra straw and shaped it for her, and that finally seemed to appease her. My animals have just reached insane levels of preciousness lately...

At least for all those idiots out there who treat animals as possessions that can be discarded at will, there are those who try to help and improve their wellbeing.

Satay, fingers crossed for a good hatch!
SilkieChickStar your girls are wonderful, especially your Daisy, so beautiful!

May I ask where you got her from? Ahh the power of chicken math, especially bantam chicken math where it's two for one

So we are looking to get two guinea fowls for our yard along with our chickens but a breeder we contacted said we should get more than two as they are a flock animal. We really dont want more than two - does amyome else have two amd they get along well with your chickens?

Thank you. I got her from a place called Heritage Hatching and Hens in archerfield. I am not sure I'd go back there, she was pretty dirty when I picked her up! But she is a cute funny thing and has settled in really well, she doesn't mind a cuddle.

They should be charged with theft and forced to pay restitution!

Finally starting to collect more eggs to hatch and now anni and Teila have started to lay so i am going to try to add a few of those to the incubator too when i get them all ready to go. Finally got a little rain to yesterday 11mm. Best we have had in a long time.

Congrats on the extra eggs and also the rain.

I'm getting 2-3 eggs out of my four d'uccles ATM. I do love those little birds.

I sold a pair of buttercups on the weekend (full disclosure about the infections) and one of the guys told me his father has d'uccles and the roos run up behind him and spear the calves of his legs. He wasn't very complimentary.
