Australia - Six states..and that funny little island.

Sorry to hear about your health problems Teila, but it's good to have a diagnosis at last and a plan to help you move forward. I hope things go smoothly for you and your family too, I'm sure they're quite concerned. Remember that chicken therapy is always good in conjunction with any treatment

Stay strong ChookNewby, it's amazing how stubborn a broody (or even non broody) hen can be, but good thing Sybil is sleeping on her roost, that will help a lot.

Myself, urgh, rant time.

Dad was fixing the clothesline today, had parts soaking in petrol to clean them. I reminded him nicely to dispose of it somewhere not in the backyard as the chickens eat the grass, he agreed, and all was good until it came time to clean the soaking tray. I think he'd tipped it out elsewhere, then returned to rinse it out in the backyard (not the front yard), but just turned the hose on jet aiming it at the tray so petrol/water sprayed on the darn grass. Que me having to shovel dirt for 20 minutes over a huge area to cover it. I ask ONE thing, I swear...I can't wait until we get a fence in to divide the yard into a section for people and the rest for the chickens.

My black and white scovie duck gibbs is sitting on eggs...they are about 28 days in but they do have a little poop on them as she will not get off those eggs as far as i have seen. Should I clean them if so with what? Or will duckies be fine? This pic was taken a few days ago.

Leave them as they are Kat. If you try to wash them now you chance pushing bacteria into the egg. Muscovies are messy things but they should hatch fine on their own.

Good morning folks :frow

jessbonnitcha I am so very sorry for your loss and under such circumstances :(   He sounds like he definitely was a mean rooster.

MyHaven yeah, you have had more than your fair share of sick chooks :(   We faired pretty well during the storms only losing a small pane of glass which was leaning against the carport, it got blown over and smashed.  Lots of rain outside but nothing inside, once we shut the windows ;)   The third one on Sunday was a doozy with the rain and wind coming from all directions.

Fancychooklady great photos of what sounds like a great day!

I have good news and not so good news.  The good news, I finally know what is going on with my health and the not so good news, sometime in the next month I am going to be booked in to have an angiogram where they stick a tube in through your leg or wrist and feed it up to the heart, yada yada, sounds pleasant :/  and depending on that, may need to have my over 50% narrowed artery stented; also sounds pleasant :/

Worse case scenario, stent + overnight in hospital and 1 week’s total rest to recover or no stent, day stay only and not allowed to lift anything for a week because of the fact that the tube was inserted through the wrist.  While I am no spring chicken, I am also not out to pasture and the doc even commented that this was unusual at my age.  Anyways, all good, hopefully soon I will be good as new and it certainly is a relief to finally know what is going on.

Glad you finally found out what is going on mate. Hopefully everything goes smooth and after a tad of rest you will be back to your old self soon. :hugs

Good morning folks

MyHaven thank you for the Chelation Therapy tip. I did some research and you are right in that there is a lot of good and bad; ranges from ‘placebo at best’ through to ‘best thing since sliced bread’

I will keep it in mind.

Chook Newby glad to hear that Miss Polly sounds like she is close to giving up on being a mommy this time around. Miss Sybil sounds a lot like my Blondie who also does puffer fish impersonations when broody .. soo funny!

devinandfeather sorry to hear that your birthday present is a dud. I agree that the best bet is probably to return it under warranty for replacement or repair. I have never used an incubator but I am guessing keeping track of the humidity etc is going to be difficult without the display and definitely not worth the risk.

Thank you Fizzybelle

It is kinda funny that at times like these I am the one reassuring my sisters that all will be fine and not to worry

Eeek at the whole petrol/water thing

I hear ya! Just this morning I found Dusty drinking out of a bowl on the lawn in which hubby has put one of the pond pumps to clean/work out why it is not working; luckily the water and pump were fairly clean with no chemicals in the water.

I am a stickler for putting everything away at the end of the day, even if the project is not finished and then bringing it out again the next day. I quite often wander around the garden muttering at half finished projects or things that have been left, usually in the way of something I use often, like the garden tap. Not to mention the grass slowly dying under whatever has been left on the lawn until the urge to continue returns

kat79 good luck with the eggs; fingers crossed for a successful hatch

I am actually feeling quite positive about it all. My biggest worry is the week of rest .. as I was doing my chicken chores this morning I was making a list of things in my head to ask them if that will be OK to do
roll.png
I am not complaining but it is a fact of life around here that usually, if I do not do it, it does not get done and sitting there looking at stuff that needs doing and not being able to do it will mess with my head

Teila I love the horse cartoon. My dad had to have a few stents last year. He is in his 70’s he said it wasn’t pleasant but he felt better fairly quickly. I hope you recover very quickly whatever they decide to do. I know just what you mean about not being able to do things when you see it needs doing (and no one else does), it really mucks with the head. A few years back I had to have surgery on my spine at the base of my neck, my hubby told my family after 2 days we would be fine, it was really hard not to notice stuff.

You guys in Queensland seem to have really copped the bad weather I hope its eased up.

Fancy Its sound like you had a great day at the show I’m glad the rain stayed away long enough.

jessbonnitcha Its not nice to to find our chooks have been killed by one of their own.
My poor little Light Sussex that got pecked will have to be on her own from now on. I went to move her out of the hospital coop, now the wound looks better and it looks like they have pecked all the skull away the is about ½ cm missing over the whole back of her skull. She seems to be functioning just fine. But I’m worried that if they do it again they will kill her or damage her brain.

Do not clean them. At this stage it's quite normal for them to get covered in muck and won't hurt them a bit. Cleaning on the other hand is likely to kill them.
