Australia - Six states..and that funny little island.

Satay  -- So sad to hear that you lost little Teila and Bidda to that snake.  He / she looks like a big one.   I believe they can flatten themselves to a large degree to slither under things.   RIP to your little girls.

,.............

Glad you got safely  through that potentially horrid water-less day satay ....

Can't say I am surprised that the workers reduced their time to 3 hours.   Wouldn't turn up at all in Victoria - because of our laws - 35°C and it's down tools especially for the CFMEU - an amalgamation of 4 unions - Construction, Forestry, Mining and Energy.

It sometimes depends however,  on the particular Union as to maximum temps to work in.   A few will go to 40°C before packing it in.  Depends also on the type of work I guess.

Strange that the hottest part of the day remains at around midday in Queensland.   In Victoria,  - on continuing very hot days, the temp rises to its' top around 4 - 6 pm.   9 times out of 10.  ... other than that, a fall in temperature due to a change, that occurs mid afternoon, those temps won't be realised.    When I was a kid, the absolute hottest part of the day was 12 noon - 2 pm.   Now - all so different.

Cheers ......

Thanks anni. Living out here they don't really care and if you complain it falls on deaf ears being a country town. The hottest part of the day here i find is around 2pm. It's really hot from 12 til 2 but 2 seems to be the peak. Mind you lately it doesn't really drop a great deal after that some nights. Temp here at the moment at 6.30am is 30c and 91% humidity, Far to hot to sleep.

Wow Middlewoods and Satay, that's weird to hear that your chooks have been fighting as well. Maybe it is the heat, everyone's got a short fuse. There was still some scuffles today, Beatrice running away a lot, but also a bit calmer. Mabel is very sweet natured, I hope it goes back to that soon as Beatrice wasn't mean to her unless challenged.

And sorry for the loss of your little Bidda, Satay :hugs

Thanks. Her little out there personality will sure be missed. Hubby came home and relocated the snake. You have to take them a minimum of 4kms away and it must be near a water source. I went in for a shower and with in 10 minutes he is at the window with another one. This one thankfully much smaller but was in the main house. Another relocation. Think we are up to something like 6 smaller ones and the one large one hubby has relocated since December.

It was a coastal carpet snake for which we have a much larger one as a pet. They can flatten heaps but not enough to get under there. Hubby is checking out the tractor this morning to see if there is anything i missed.

Satay how sad, I would just freak out if I saw a snake that size I'd have a heart attack for sure. You guys are so calm. I cringe when our blue tongue pokes about. Crazy weather we are having for sure. I lost a few chooks last year so I only have two, I may up that to four, how long do I quarantine them for? Many thanks.

2 to 4 weeks is best to keep them seperate. I think you could be right about the family of snakes. I'll have to post a pic of mila our snake one day she's huge.

used to snakes around here. Though i won't ever handle a wild one i leave that hubby.

Its good your hubby can move them around.  Its does sound like a family doesn't it. I hope you've found them all.  Are snakes territorial will they come back?
They can do if they are not moved far enough away. My neighbours love my hubby he gets many calls to remove non venomous snakes. We know the local snake catcher too for problem venomous ones. Thankfully i haven't had to call on him but nice to know i can if i need too.

I usually cringe for the blue tongues if I see one, hoping the girls don't spot him. Don't know if they'd peck one, but wouldn't put it past them. Cane toads though, I cringe at. Now it's raining the disgusting things'll be out tonight or tomorrow.

Little Beatrice my d'uccle has had me frustrated today. Found her under the coop panting. She'd laid her egg, so thought she was hot and brought her inside in the aircon. She was eating and otherwise fine, goes over to the glass door indicating that she was wanting to go out, so I let her out and she ran back to the chook fence by herself. Runs over to the coop when I open the gate, straight up the ramp and sits down on the eggs theres. Sigh, ok so she's clucky. I come back about 15 mins later to find her playing under the palms. What? Then she starts with that screaming of hers (it's getting LOUDER these days), and follows me around until I pick her up and carry her around with me for a while, like a handbag. Was totally fine after that.

She's seriously a toddler in a chickens body. Sigh, gotta love her though.
