Thanks!Bantam's of standard birds should average the same ammount of eggs between their breed, if not more, compared to their full sized counterpart. Of course, the eggs are smaller. As for if bantam's lay in the winter, it depends on their breed and the individual bird. Hope this helps.
No rain here, and it's still quite mild; but yesterday it did get cold in the evening.yeah was really windy too here yesterday... really warm compared to other days.. then it rained during the night.. now it's back to freezing again...
Getting warmer now down here. .... looks like Spring's just round the corner....No rain here, and it's still quite mild; but yesterday it did get cold in the evening.
How about when you have to process them when it's raining!Particularly when you're trying to process a cockerel and the winds howling down ones neck!
Hello, I only have regular size chooks so wouldn’t be too sure about the bantams laying, my 5-6 month old Sussex hens haven’t started laying yet, but my Wyandotte’s are just starting to lay again. Cheers!Hi Will just curious whether your birds are regular or bantam sized ones.. and whether that actually affects their laying capacity during the cold weather.. as I've got several pullets around the same ages as yours and they range from between regular and bantam size but they're still laying consistently (5-6 eggs/wk) - except for the 2 smallest bantams who still lay but 1-2 eggs less per week. The temperature here are probably around like yours - between 12 - 15 deg C at the moment and temperatures were around -1 deg C the past couple of nights.
Thanks!
Nice to meet you too! I've also got four and we're in Adelaide. What sort of chooks did you get?Hey all.
I'm from Perth (metro), just got 4 chooks recently.
Hope everyone's well, & their chickens! Nice to meet you.
