Two new Aussies in a few hours? :woot :welcome

Hi Steve! What kind of chickens do you have? Must be hard to keep those ladies cool, I'm in the Goulburn Valley and we've had a few 40+ days already and it's not fun and your area is usually hotter than mine.

Hi Penguin! What kind of chickens are you hoping to get? I think I know exactly the kind of coop you've got. I've seen them but they are way to small for my rather large flock. ;)

Fair warning to both of you, chickens are addictive and you tend to end up with more than you'd planned.

Wish i could change my settings i was a gold feather member before the change over but some how that has vanished now. I did email Terry for help but I am guessing it isn't going to be changed back now as I have heard nothing. Welcome to the new members. What a difference a week makes. All last week was over 40c here and today it is lovely and cool and raining lol. I sure need the rain so am one happy camper today lol

To the newcomers.

Satay I am so glad to hear you finally have some rain. Hope it refills the tanks and lingers for a while.

Hi all! They stopped notifying me of posts! So I thought that no one had been posting! Came on to have a look at something and saw all the new posts !

all the Newbies!
Rare Breed Fabncier, I have both Firefox and Google Chrome, I just downloaded Google Chrome and it has its' own seperate Icon on my screen. I use it for Facebook games, and anything that is a bit slow.
Glad you got rain Satay! Been feeling for you all. My Malays love the heat, and lie out in full sun, but as Rare Breed says, the Silkies seem to feel it. I really felt sad to read about the people loosing 60 chickens. What an awful blow!

Aussie Aussie Aussie

I am also from Brisbane Australia - Live on the Peninsula in Redcliffe - lovely place.

I'm a newbie to all this. I am waiting for my chicken coop to arrive. I was hum and haring on which breed to get. I thought firstly I should try Austalorps as they were bred in OZ however on talking to people and looking on line I am deciding to go with the Rhode Island Reds, they are apparently good layers, live longer, are good socialisers, lay for most of the year and the egg is quite large. Have any of you had any experience with this chicken breed? Do any of you have your chickens vaccinated?

I have also started a thread called "Help for the Newbies". If any of you are brave enough and have the time - I would love to hear from you.

That's Oli on your left, my sweet Pomeranian, I also have a green cheeked Conure named Fredo (like the frog because he has bulging eyes).

Hope to hear from you out there

Cheers
Chrissy

PS Also planning in getting one silkie as a pet

I have rir's and honestly I prefer the Aussies of the two. They both lay large eggs but i find the Aussie "s seems to lay more a year to me than the rir's. I prefer the nature of the aussies too. They are both great breeds so whatever you choose i am sure you will love them.

The rain has stopped we didn't get all that much being so far inland from the coast but it sure cooled things down quite a bit.

Hi Chrissy! :welcome

Oli is sooooo cute! :love

I would not say RIR's are 'good socialisers', I have only one hen and she is by far the bossiest hen in the flock. Aussies are much more laid back in my experience. Both will lay plenty of eggs though. :)

None of my chicks are vaccinated as the originals were gifted to me when a friend's broody was killed and she'd bought them from a local farmer as she has no roo with her flock. Most of the others are their babies so I've never worried about it.
