Wouldnt it be nice to have a hen that did lay Chocolate eggs?? Im sure there would be many more people in the world keeping chooks... not to mention bacon and eggs on toast for breakfast tasting a whole lot different.

I have a few pure arauacanas that lay pointy eggs too. I got my male runner on Friday. He is a lovely boy and very gentle so I am happy. Now if i could just convince these animals on my place to start laying again. Not one single egg from anything in weeks now. They have all been having huge moults this year so hopefully soon they will get back on the lay. My muscovey babies are growing really fast now too.

Ashburnham - so sorry! I've been gone a week so I guess I'd forgotten I'd asked. I'm sorry.

Ducky - I keep telling people I'd like to get some Marans because they lay chocolate eggs. This close to Easter, I think some of them actually took me literally! (on a side note, I'm saving up my egg money to buy some fertile Marans eggs to incubate. They're rediculously expensive for a girl who's always had ISA Browns).

Ashburnahm - Those eggs are really pointy! Are they double-yolkers or what?

Satay - I'm glad I'm not the only one who's not getting any eggs! Some of mine have the excuse of being too young, but I've only gotten two eggs from the quails over to past few weeks. My father says his girls haven't been laying as well, either. Is it the season or the weather or something? I know that some of mine are moulting pretty badly, too.

from Rachel.

I'm not sure what is going on with them Rachel. I have some young ones too so not expecting anything from them just yet. I have never seen my girls and guys moult like they have this year. Maybe it's just that. I did get 2 turkey eggs yesterday which is not bad as I only have 3 girls left and one has a baby.

lilbitlizzie12 You may have more luck in Spring getting some eggs as fertility can be quite low this time of year. Good luck in your search...

Has anyone ever bought eggs and hatched something other than what you expected?? I have two little ducklings tonight that have hatched much darker than I would have expected for the breed. Oh well...they are still cute little quackers whatever they are. I only bought the eggs since I didnt have any from my own ducks to incubate - so wasnt particularly fussed anyway. .
