Australia - Six states..and that funny little island.

Oh rachel sorry to hear of your losses it's always sad when some don't make it. Good news about the fences though. I have the same here otherwise they tend to dig up my gardens which is never a good thing. Good to hear worm is still going well though.

aw only 3 chicks :( my eggs have just started to hatch. started pipping at night of day 18 ?? so practically day 19 but today is day 20 and i have 2 hatched out and all but 1 pipped :)

Unfortunately Worm made a sudden turn for the worse at around seven last night (loss of co-ordination and balance, followed by laboured breathing and occasional seizures) and passed away at about ten-thirty. It was very sad, especially with her having been to active and healthy right up until early evening yesterday! You can read about it here https://www.backyardchickens.com/t/665560/possible-epidemic-fatal/10#post_8989155. I'm worried that there might be some sort of illness that my chicks are getting as the illness and death progressed almost identically to how Wriggle died. I don't have any chicks that I've hatched left now.

Anyway, I just got back from my first riding lesson... trying to conquer my fear of riding (not afraid of horses... just of riding, or more accurately, of falling - I took a bad fall a couple of years back and didn't have a chance to ride again for about six months... by which time I was terrified). I think it went quite well, I managed to get on and off the horse a couple of times, riding around the arena too. It's strange because before I fell, I was a reasonably decent rider... the teacher was a little surprised that I knew how to steer a such, although I was petrified when I had to turn or when the horse made an unexpected move!

So Sorry to read about worm- its always so sad to loose them.

Has anyone that pre- ordered received their Australian Standards book? I have heard today that some people do now have them. I have heard of one changes in the ducks section - I really need to look at as it concerns one of the rare breeds I keep- it seems the standard has been changed which which mean the birds I have put two years into breeding now will not meet the standards. Hope mine gets here tomorrow.

oh well better than none

I had the funniest thing happen on the weekend. I advertised some australorp roosters that i had on freecycle and a lady came and got all 10... Too eat you may ask... no to have as pets lol. She was orginally from Fiji where she says they have chickens and roosters running all over the place. She told me she only had roosters not hens as she just thought they looked pretty and didn't really care about getting eggs.( she has 11 acres). She then asked me if i sold my chook eggs for eating could she buy then from me once a week. lol. Looks like the boys were saved from the pot lol.

Oh Wow Satay- what a lucky find she was!!! Nice to know your boys have gone to a nice home. And egg sales are a bonus too- well done.

Thanks Ducky. The funniest thing i have have ever heard from a country town that for sure. Most of the old timers would laugh her out of town if they heard that one lol. She was a lovely lady though and I am glad the boys are now in free range heaven :)
