Australorps breed Thread

Hi everyone! I am in Southern California with 1 WONDERFUL Australorp amidst mixed flock of 9. We have Cream Legbars, Bielefeders, an EE, a Golden laced Wyandotte, and a Lemon Cuckoo English Orpington. We would love to add another Aussie, or two, to our flock, and are looking for some hatching eggs! I tried searching on BST board with no luck... We love our "V.V." (Named 'Viaca' by our 5 year old and has mercifully evolved to "VV"), she is definitely the sweetest, most affectionate, of the bunch. Any colors are welcome! Thank you so much, in advance!!! Here she is with her EE hatch day sister, "Julie".

Oh- that's not their coop...that's our grow out coop/introduce-and-protect them-from-the-big-girls-coop

. They're integrated perfectly now...we just keep it opened up during the day for extra hawk protection, and for these two, I think, they're security blanket

Genetics are a funny thing. Somewhere in the past was a barred gene or that could not happen. A pure australorp and a leghorn could make the white earlobed and gold neck bird but not the barred bird with the polish hat! Trust me, there are mixed genetics in your birds past to have those offspring. There are black birds in many breeds but that does not make them Australorps, it makes them a black feathered chicken.

I was thinking the barred one looked polish too ..
The black one looks like black sex link to me

How cuter:). It's a bigger coop than I pictured too, that's a great grow out pen.

Hey everyone! We have a flock of 5 Australorps(4 hens and 1 CB), and I was wondering about our boy. I think he's gorgeous, of course, but I was wondering what you guys would think. I am trying to decide if I should keep him for breeding. Feel free to build him up or tear him down. I'm not sensitive. ;)

He's almost 2 years old and currently stuck in the bachelor pad. We've taken to calling him Big Fat Meany--he gives the other boys a run for it.

Thanks, I'll get some more shots tomorrow. I don't think he molted this year. His tail looks odd, but we had a predator after him a few weeks back while they free ranged. If he did molt this year, it wasn't a heavy one. .
Come to think of it, none of our aussies molted heavily this past year.

I'll get those pics up asap. Feel free to comment here, feel free to PM us, whichever. I'm just here to learn.
