Australorps breed Thread

Wow ! Talk about a Small World .....how did you find this post ? Do you have Australorps also ?
LMBO. Getting them on the 27th (wahoooo). That's our SURPRISE breed; no RIR or GC available either pick up date so I researched other breeds & went with the Black Australorp. I'm thinking I may add to them before we leave the hatchery ;) I guess I aced chicken math.

Hi Everyone I'm new to this can anyone tell me if I have a roo or possibly two

Lauza, hard to tell from 1 1/2 pics. Possible roo left bird and neither are Australorps with the orange or yellow legs, Aussies have slate colored legs.

I suspect there are threads for Leghorns where people might be more familiar that some people (like me) here in the Australorp thread who have never seen a Leghorn. But I can tell you that black chicken sure as heck isn't a WHITE Leghorn

And at 4 weeks I'll buy lunch if the gray one is a WHITE Leghorn.

Repeating that I've never had or seen a Leghorn chick, those combs look HUGE for a 4 week old pullet of any breed.

They are now 4 weeks old they were supposed to be white leghorns. They were white eggs

i think you have been had I'm afraid. I suspect what you have are some barnyard mixes. A black chicken doesn't nescesarrily mean Australorp, yours may have had some somewhere in its parentage but not enough is coming through to call it an Australorp. Have to agree those are some pretty dam big combs for 4 weeks, I'd be surprised if they turn out to be girls. They are huge combs even for boys.

Try posting your question in this forum. It's for working out what you have. https://www.backyardchickens.com/f/15/what-breed-or-gender-is-this

So excited by my Australorp chick. I am really hoping its a hen as our neighbors live quite near to us, despite both homes being on acreage and both are elderly and very sick. We have managed to keep a quiet household here even with four teens. A Rooster would be have to find a home elsewhere I'm afraid. Lily, pictured, is 2.5 weeks today and has two more 2.5 week old Cream Legbar - Ameraucana chicks to keep her company.

I don't remember mine having white markings on them like that? Is that normal for Australorps?
