If you look at my avatar, those are 4 of my Australorps at 2 days old and they have just as much white/cream as yours do, as well as white tushes, and they are all pullets. I don't think the markings give any hints of sex. Mine are now 11 weeks old and they are totally black. I love the little chickies and I love my big chickies.I have a 4 day old chick that I believe to be an Australorp. What is unique, so it seems, is it has a white "tail" on above its solid white belly and butt area. Its so cute. I call it Cotton Tail or Bunny (BunBun). Anyway, Im curious if others who have bread Austalorp noticed anything telling about the white marking on the chicks. Does more or less white on the head indicate male or female for instance. Has any one with lots of baby chick observations noticed if markings or amount of white vs black indicate sex? Here are some pics of my new baby:
I would appreciate any opinions as it if it is indeed most likely an Australorp too, as well as any ideas of sex. Thanks for playing along!
Quote: X2! The legs and top of the feet will turn gray and the beak will get darker too.
I thought that too, but some of the Hatchery chicks will start out with yellow legs. Hers already has some gray at the top.LObzi,
I hate to be the bearer of bad news but Australorps never have yellow feet and legs when they are born, There is some kind of a mix there. Even when they are day olds their feet and legs will be pinkish and slate gray.Unless your camera flash made them look yellow they are not pure breed Australorps. Sorry!
