Australorps breed Thread

Hey guys and gals, I need some advice pronto. I treated some of my flock with Frontline for mites. How soon can I worm them, and what is a good wormer. I have Wazine but I was told that it doesn't get all types of parasites. Please if you could give me some advise on this asap! Local stores are Southern States and Tractor Supply.

See post #7 of this thread, good info :

I don't think I would be in a big hurry unless you have serious worm problem. I would give them a week or so to get over the stress of the frontline, then start a regular worming routine. ........stan

Stan-thanks, that is a great source of info. Thank you for the tip. I was on the Emerg. Diseases thread but didn't find enough info. There are a lot of different applications with a lot of different products. You think I should wait 2-3 weeks to worm after the Frontline? We've had a wetter and warmer winter than usual, so I'm thinking as soon as it's safe. That post recommended Valbazen, yet it seems a majority of people seem to be using Ivermectin 5-7 drops for large fowl, and 2-3 for bantams. I suppose cost has a lot to do with it. I appreciate your help.

Just want to report in on my situation with my Rooster that flogged me--he has not even looked my way now that I have stopped wearing the camo shoes! Thanks for the advice!

I think I would not wait too long or you will be into a heavier egg laying time and I hate tossing eggs. Just give them enough time to get over the frontline if there was any stress involved with it. A lot of the reason people use the Ivermectin is because of ease of adminerstring it, just a couple of dorps, no shots or hypos involved. Most of the folks I've seen asking about wormers want to just add it to the water. I have heard that Valbazen is less stressful to the birds and covers most all common worms.........stan

In the meantime while you wait, maybe use some natural wormers to see if that might make things better?

I feed chopped pumkin seeds, put Unpasturized Apple Cider Vinegar in all my chickens water.

Here is an interesting read too...

Stan,
I need another side shot showing the length of his back and maybe a shot from the rear to let you know what I think. From what i can see in the one pic, body type and legs are fine. On the comb, the blade points in the rear don't count so I only see 6 or 7 points so breed him with a 4 or 5 point hen with a nice body type. I do like a longer back, but I cannot really tell from the pic. Nice breast and chest width on that boy.
PS Hatch due on Fri 10 BA's, 2 BR's. Just set about 20 BA's, 10 SLW's, and about 8 EE's for fun!

I would wait 3 to 5 days and give them a bit of plain yogurt each morning. Non pasturized Apple Cider vinegar in the water and up their protein.

They use ivermectin first to try to lessen the worm load. If you have wormed yours before, then go straight to Valbazen. Ivermectin is good for killing lice and mites. Some studies have found it to be less effective for worms. You have already killed the lice and mites so you do not need ivemectin for that.

Good Job!
