Australorps breed Thread

We use goat wormer..0.1cc.per bird .learned that from a buff orp breeder freind..But also switch up, wazine ect...

Took a pic of the australorp rooster today..had a chance for a beautiful balanced shot but one of the dirt bathing hens made a noise and he raised his head..

I can see it know, that hen acting up at something she doesn't like. So kefir is as I suspected, the probiotic of choice of choosy cheeky chicks.

What is your dosage of Valbazen?

I have heard that it is a good idea to switch wormers from time to time. Valbazen and fenbendazole are goat wormers that I have seen recommended on here. Good looking youngin' you have there Aveca!! Thought you told me he had like 12 comb points?? I thought you meant points on his comb, not points you get from a judge in a show!! Nice!! Wish my boy had that tail on him.... maybe after his moult....stan

I wrote it on the bottle so had to go check on that., A bird around 7 lbs. I read to use .5cc or .5ml It is a very small amount. (Note the decimal before the number.)

I'm not sure about this part... but I will bring it up in case experts may have something to say about it. I read you should treat again in 10 days to insure you rid the bird of the next cycle of worm life hatching from eggs left behind. Is that necessary or not? I did do it because I don't plan on worming my hen for a year (unless she seems sick) I wanted to make sure I got any worms hatching out in that next life cycle. But perhaps I didn't need to do it? I never saw worms ever but some say you don't have to see them for them to be there,

I try to feed my hen organic diet as much as possible, etc. so this went against the grain for me. But she was sick and needed help. There was a big turn around for her afterward and she is very healthy now so I feel i did the right thing in her case.

Fantastic bird Aveca. I'd love chicks from a bird like that. Great breast and overall weight, that is not too orp like(a little fluffy in the thigh for me). Good legs under him, nice back and good tail. I'd like to see the tail from the side. One thing Bruce Sherman said he wanted to breed for on his birds is, more, fuller lesser sickles. He doesn't like the two really long curving main sickles with few thin lessers. Whose birds did you start with originally and how many generations out are you, if you mind me asking?

He's feathered out nicely, not the best pose as you explained, but being a good bird, still he looks great.

LOL he has 7 comb points...they swear to me its 6 dont count that little one...Too bad you didnt live closer..You could take him..send me some eggs...I lost a lot of birds last year ..we were building big pasture fences so all of the australorp except him were out free..In that short time Fox were picking them off one by one.., hawks, coyote couple of dogs that were extreamly agressive with me and the neighbor....same dogs killed neighbors entire pen of prize winning silkies..she sued him , still suing him..so far won 3 grand in damages...and finnaly weasles..it was like a grimm fairey tail..Finnaly had to put them into stomp fence..love that stuff , should have done that in the first place, but with work schedule..you know how it goes...I figured a week out of the pens wouldnt hurt anything..jeees..we now have everything except back side of orchard which as soon as weather breaks that will be worked..

That bird is a gift from Bob Whitney..what can I say about Bob..nicest guy in the world...wins the huge trophy best sportsmanship award every year...promotes kids and poultry has meetings for the club every month, differnt speakers sometimes..interesting as can be.. hardest working guy in the region..I dont know how he does it all..His birds are east coast champion australorp.and langshan...they have won from ohio , to NY Pa, Va, Maine, maryland ,mass, vt and Im sure Im forgetting some..they are bigger than the average australorp..he had a pair in a sale cage that were sold befor he got them there..stunning birds..just amazing.he sells chicks but no eggs, likes to eat the extras..LOL.

Mine is perfectly workable breeding bird with the right hens..we have a stunning cockeral out of him at another farm..plus a couple pullets..hes a little crow headed I think..does better with hens real round eye..he puts amazing body and feathering on the babies..he is out of very old line that was quietly kept in mass ever since importation long time ago.. He is seen with 2 breeding hens and a hatchery hen that somone gave me..
