Australorps breed Thread

Well..... we DO NOT have Australorps!

However, the kids have some Australorp bantam eggs developing in the incubator.....

and.....

A BYC friend was talking to me on the phone this morning. She wanted to know if I knew of any 4H kids that would like to have some Black Australorps. My 11 year old son over heard our conversation. Needless to say, we moved some bantams out of large pens and made room for whatever we come home with tomorrow afternoon. Will take lots of photos and post asap.

She bought these out of a show and that exhibitor bought them from the Superior Farms sale out. Not sure what line they are, but are nice. called a Texas friend and he spoke to Jahdan. They came to an agreement for a dozen from his exhibition breeders. So I guess WE are not going to have Australorps....but Jahdan will!

Congratulations!

I will look for the photos!

This is why I love BA's. They are the friendliest birds I have ever had. The Boss, LOL. with her spoiled brats!!!
Perfect! That is exactly what I want to experience. "The Boss" is a very blessed lady indeed.

One wide Aussie girl.

Good to hear from you, Bill. Nice girl! Interesting that you describe her as "wide". This is an obvious difference between Utility and Exhibition BA's here. Utility birds are noticeably narrower. Our Exhibition birds are generally referred to as Large Australorps, the size coming from the addition of Partington-type Orp. Your girl's got a really nice front. Our birds seem to be getting a bit flat in the back. Not a problem with this girl! I know you appreciate 'honest' critiques of your birds, Bill. So, from the 1 pic., I'd say she's a little short in the back and that tight curve tends to push her tail a bit high. I've mentioned that fluffy thighs are an issue here. Something I'm working on with my birds. Other than the curve, your girl looks like lots of mine. BA's aren't supposed to be tight-feathered like a gamebird but neither should they be loose-feathered like an Orp. This girl could breed you some beaut birds if matched with the right boy.

They have become very popular here in recent times. They have a major advantage over standards - there is no division between Utility-type and Exhibition-type. They lay well and black, blue, white and 'Splashed' are quite common here. They're great little birds, very suitable for smaller suburban situations. I sometimes wish that I'd decided on breeding them rather than the big guys as you only have to work from one type.
Welcome from Aus. Cheers Geoff
