Australorps breed Thread

Geoff it is nice to have something worth sharing. This pullet will most likely be taken to her brother. Her brother is not as wide as the dad. 1/2 of my line is an Akers Australorp cull I bought for $10. Can't beat that price to have some Exhibition blood to play with. The other 1/2 has some hatchery Aussie and as you may remember some of the Akers line of Buffs from 4 year ago bred together. I still have her mom and dad. And now will have 2 Aussie pens to have some fun breeding this season.

Hi folks,
as promised, a few pics of my cull.

Giving some of the young pullets (and the odd boy that slipped through early) a good coat of looking at!

Just for a bit of fun for the more experienced. Why have I chosen to cull these 2 guys even though they have quite good conformation? The first boy is going to a mate for his flock of layers and the 2nd to the pot. They have just started to crow so combs are not fully developed.

Cheers Geoff from Aus

Oh my goodness... they look beautiful to me! lol... I love pictures,, this is great..I will represent all totally ignorant people on this BA thread and ask if their eye color is off? Both my BA's have black eyes, where as I can't see the their pupils. Don't choke on your coffee Geoff, couldn't resist guessing.

Really lovley birds Geoff!! I love the lawn chair observatory LOL...isnt it funny how poultry keepers all have those chairs to sit around and observe the birds scanning for those really good ones.. Love my lawn chair..but yours is a directors chair..Even better hee hee....

Its a real treat to see your birds..the more the merrier..keep those pics coming..

Geoff I am no judge. And both have such nice clean faces. The only diff I can see is the top one has a rounder eye then the second. Knowing you are a perfectionist, I can see that being a reason that you would not use him.

I could use some education: I see a difference in the number of points on the combs of the two roosters. I have seen reference to having too many points. What specifically is one to strive for? What exactly qualifies as a point?

I am going by memory, but as I recall, the Australian standard is for 5 to 6 points. I do not think the little points count on these, so too few points?

The eyes are supposed to be brown or black, big and "Soulful"
So, are you saying that one has 2 points and the other has 3 points?

Thanks for your response BTW.
