Australorps breed Thread

She was from a family that does breed, but not specifically Australorps. She has fertile eggs now, so when she starts laying I am going to incubate. They didn't realize they had an unusual color of Aussie. They have a flock of about 15 Aussies. Most are black. She was just one of a few they have that are chocolate. So What does the oil thing mean that you said? She is definitely brown and definitely pure Aussie. Are you saying she is bad quality? I don't plan on showing. They actually gave her and an EE to me as egg layers. My plan is to breed my silkies. I didn't know what and Australorp was until yesterday.

So what do I have here? I can't find anything about chocolate Australorps. I'm super curious now! Even if she isn't show quality.

I found this. Apparently I need a chocolate rooster LOL!

Chocolate cockerel + Chocolate hen = 100% Chocolate

Chocolate cockerel + Black hen = all Chocolate hens & all Chocolate Split cockerels (Black in colour but carry the Chocolate gene)

Black cockerel + Chocolate hen = all Chocolate Split males & all Black hens

Chocolate Split Cockerel + Chocolate hen = 25% Chocolate hens, 25% Black hens, 25% Chocolate cockerels & 25% Chocolate split cockerels

Chocolate Split Cockerel + Black hen = 25% Chocolate hens, 25% Black hens, 25% Black cockerels & 25% Chocolate split cockerels

Never seen of, or heard of a chocolate australorp! That does not mean that they do not exist. If the flock was mostly black then it is likely a throwback from something mixed in their flock in the past. The overall body type is not quite right and the comb is definitely not right to be an Australorp of quality.
