The 1st one has no rooster tail yet ...the 2nd one has the beginnings of a tail .
They might look more alike when they are done growing

I've got the same thing with my two hens. One has tail feathers and the other has almost none. I assume it is because mine are hatchery Black Australorps (likely not "pure bred" to true registry genetics). Where breeders cull out the uncharacteristic anomalies hatcheries would not waste perfectly good "sellable" chicks on such pursuit of perfection. Just my guess.
I just got my first australorp today. I will post a pic tomorrow when I can, but she is a dark chocolate color. For sure pure bred, so what does chocolate mean?
No she lays eggs. She is around 1 or 2 I think. I will post a pick. I don't know anything about them, I just thought she was an awesome Mohagany (this is her color) . She is almost purple chocolate. The people I got her from have a couple more out of there large flock of blacks like her. I guess I should start incubating this week. I just got her today.Congratulations!
