Australorps breed Thread

I have a kitchen scale and a bowl. The hard part is when the live chicken won't stay in the bowl.

I don't weight them until I process them now.
I was curious. Not sure if it was this thread, but a month or so ago people were talking about the weights of their young birds
How do you weigh anything? Put it on a scale.
THANKS !!

Roosters have their place too ..Even if you dont decide to hatch your own . They are helpful .
They keep the flock together ..they will blend more than one flock together ..
They will put the hens to bed for you ..
They will watch out for danger ...predators from the ground or air ...
They are the Proudest of all chickens ..
You have time to see how he fits with your flock

...Unless you cant have him where you are ...Who knows you might like him ..

I heard word of mouth that saving your egg shells and pulverizing them into meal (in a blender or grinder) to add to the chicken feed helps recycle the calcium for stronger egg shells. They just said don't add large egg shell pieces or some chickens might learn to eat eggs that way so always make sure they are ground pretty fine like meal.

That is a good size!

They seem to lose about 1.5 pounds. Wait until 16 weeks or so and you will have a 4# or so dressed bird. That is a good size and still tender.

Thanks for the info Ron. I am planning on waiting until at least 18 weeks but just had to weigh one.
