Lookie lookie what we found this evening...our first egg! It was not in the nest box, but rather by the entrance into the coop- on the threshold. I believe it was from "Flower" our 20 wk old Australorp.

My 5.5 year old holding it.

Getting ready to enjoy it and it was sweet like candy!
Congrats ! To train them put a fake egg in the nest box ..Only have colored eggs ? Put some masking tape on it

Hilarious! I feed mine FF as well. Picture this... they would not eat it from a glass bowl ... SO I found a couple chipped glass plates from my dinnerware...don't I serve them in style.

All they need is bibs. That stuff gets all over everything when they fling it around. Don't you love watching them clean off their beaks after eating. That is a hoot! While I am carrying their plates of FF across the paddock I have to be very careful not to step on anybody. They do get excited don't they. With all your chickens it must be quite an active experience managing it all. How fun! BTW, love how easy it is to wash up their dinner plates each night. <snicker> ~Dee~

BTW, I really love the bright yellow color Betsy Barr Rock's egg lends to my lemon curd. Gorgeous and so tasty too. YUM! Can't wait for eggs from my BA's. Homemade white cake with lemon curd is one of my fav's. That and scones.

I'm getting hungry. LOL ~Dee~

Home eggs are so great for baking!

Lemon curd is one of my favorites. I need to make an Angel Food Cake too.

Thank you Dee. Yep VERY interesting to say the least. lol I keep calling them my lil pigs and I feel like I am slopping pigs.

No matter how much I feed them they always act like they haven't eaten in days. I am fermenting their food to and you talk about a hoot, now THAT is a hoot! They dearly LOVE the stuff and when they're out free ranging and I bring that bucket, lets just say it's mega hard to get IN the door without some of them coming IN with me!

TRY putting fermented food in a vinyl gutter that has poultry wire over it to keep the lil pigs out of it with 38 chicks trying to take a bite outta each scoop you put in there.

I started putting part of a scoop out in something else to distract them and then I can get it in their trough.
My husband hates garlic too. He likes a little seasoned salt and that is all.
