Australorps breed Thread

Well the one that had the most developed looking comb & wattles is the one of my pullets that is laying.

Dan

Interesting! Thanks for getting back to me on that. If Bella lays her first egg this coming week it would seemingly calculate correctly according to the development differences. Cannot wait! ~Dee~

Egg laying is an amazing miracle!
Ron, I totally agree with that. It is part of why I absolutely enjoy my hens.
Especially BA's. They are the most wonderful hens to look at ever for me. I've said it before. Their eyes are amazing! The coloring of their feathers exquisite. Eggs are a bonus.

speaking of squatting, my RIR pullet did that this evening. We were working on their run and she was scratching where we had just raked because we needed their deep litter out of the way. So I lightly bumped up back side with the backside of the shovel and she squatted. lol So I was like get a move on girl we're busy here.

It wasn't my first egg, just my first one out of the nest box. She had been laying around 10 days but had been doing so in a corner of the coop! I hope she has it figured out now.

Dan

oh OK, well glad they're getting it figured out. I just hope mine figure it out really quick or I'm afraid the egg will be eaten the way mine are. lol

update on my BA, Black Betty. (Attacked by the stupid turkeys) She is doing really well! Her head is healing up, there is a good firm scab still there, but had no problems with infection. Feathers are growing back around it, so even if she doesn't get all the feathers back where the wound was, she won't be completely bald. ((for some reason the bear from The Great Outdoors movie keeps coming to mind...

The turkeys have left her alone and she has fully joined the rest of the flock by herself (she was persistent) and is getting more confident by the day.

Whew...made it through my second chicken problem easier than the first!!
