Hello Everyone!
Bella began laying yesterday at 22 weeks.

So it is as I thought. She developed about 2 weeks later than Peppa via my observation of comb & wattle, etc.

It was also fun yesterday AM to receive a WHOOPER from Peppa. It is as large as 3yr. 3mo.old Betsy Barr Rock hen's jumbo size eggs.
I betcha it has a double yolk as she had skipped the day before even though she had taken a time out for sitting in the nest with no egg as the result.

It is absolutely wonderful getting all these eggs now as fall/winter are my favorite baking months.
Hope you all are having good times with your BA's. I really get a big kick out of mine. Peppa is quite the yakky girl and tells me long stories.

I fed Bella some sunflower seeds on the plastic table I use in the paddock a few weeks ago because Betsy hogs them up and won't let her have some.
Now Bella hops up on the table everyday and cocks her head at me as if to say, "OK, I am ready for mine." I always have extra in my pocket for her.

It is baking time.

I need to get my Oregon Sourdough replenished and back up to full strength.

This is my 7 week Australorp. Hoping she's a Pullet. Sexed as a Pullet by Meyers.

What do you think? Pullet?

That's not white on the tail feathers - just a trick of lighting.

The comb and wattles are the right color for a pullet but they are a bit big.

Two or Three weeks will help figuring out gender.

Ugh. I'm really hoping it's a Pullet. We already have 1 or 2 others in our flock of 5 that we're worried are roos. This one has the smallest comb and wattles of everyone (granted they are all different breeds but....)

I also really like this chick. Quiet and totally non aggressive but not meek. And always the first to try new things.

Yes, BAs are just like your description.

Watch for the comb and wattles to turn pink by 10 weeks. If they stay that yellow color until 16 weeks or so then it is a pullet.

If the Hatchery said a pullet and there are not obvious Rooster changes than assume they were correct.

You have a great chance of the chick being a pullet!
