Australorps breed Thread

Wonderful series of pics Ron. Recognized some of them from your past posts but fun to see them laid out together. The two pics really crack me up. Very cute! Your flock is beautiful by the way. ~Dee~
It is nice to see them from hatch to egg layers!

Love this One " What ca Doing ? "
They are still very peaceful and friendly.

Hi Dee

Surprised you remembered him! I changed his name to Little Max (after his big brother) because his original name just didn't fit a roo
tongue.png
. The 're-homing of his big brother with the guy that said he wanted him turned into a nightmare for my sweet boy (long, stupid story I can't relay without getting upset all over again) but my friend and neighbor got the call and went running to rescue him and decided he belonged to her! Seems she had fallen in love with the big sweet ball of feathers herself when she went with me to deliver him to this "gentleman" . When she called to tell me what happened I went right over expecting to pick up my roo but found her hugging him close and wanting my help to set up a special place just for him and the two little girl lorps.

. It has since turned out that her other roo wanted nothing to do with the little girls anyway and totally ignores the little trio.
big_smile.png
. It could not have worked out better!

I am still going to try to get pullets from Urch in the spring if my health permits the road trip. I really would like to see his setup!!! I was going to try hatching but my only broody was momma. Besides, with my luck I'd hatch out all boys!!!

Little Max is really beginning to settle down and today he actually sounded his first warning to the girls! But at what I have no clue

it still shows that there's hope for him yet

Hi back chickisoup. Sorry you had such a bad experience re-homing your roo, "big brother" Really remarkable how it worked out however. That puts a smile on it for sure.

Well, I remember because you wrote a very compelling story about your experience with your two roosters awhile back. I was touched by how much care you gave them to give them a fighting chance at survival. I really like his new name by the way. Looking forward to seeing a pic of him now when you can get it done. Sounds like your world will be frozen solid deeply for awhile. Stay warm. Hope you do make that trip to the Urch chicken ranch. Would love to hear all about it. I know others would too. When I contacted Urch last year he had a minimum of 25 which I cannot deal with or I would have ordered from him. ~Dee~

Quote: Thank you for replying Vamvakas. I do not understand changing the standards in that sliding manner. What good are they if they judge by preferences rather than standard? Very confusing for me. Overtime this will change the stellar beauty of the Black Australorp hen in my opinion. Their 6.5 lb. size is very much key to their unique beauty. So disappointing to know. ~Dee~

You dont always have to Re- home Roos . Roos that grow up together usually work it out ...
They will squabble sometimes ...but dont always fight .
I have 4 Roos . 1 Australorp Roo - 1 1/2 years old . 3 - 6 month olds ..2 are Sumatra , 1 is Americana
My BA is the head Roo - if the other roos bother his hens he will attack them .
if they mind their own business & stay away from his hens ..most times he ignores them .
I like having more Roos my flock is safer with more watching Eyes . They crow to each other ...back & forth

I have 2 black Australorp roosters that are 7 months old and grew up together and I've never seen them truly fight. Every once in a while they'll peck at each other but nothing crazy.

My original Australorps, I had four that I grew out together, then sold down to 3 who were fine together until about 6 -7 months then two of them started to pick on the 3rd. So I seperated him. The other 2 got along great forever then all the sudden they hated to see each other.

My first Australorps are 3 years old and thick as thieves. The new ones are 7 months old and still hang together.

None of them have been aggressive to other chickens.

I have Hatchery from Cackle and Breeder quality from Hupp Farms.
