Australorps breed Thread

Quote: this is my Max playing in the top of the greenhouse.

This is my Max. What do you all think??? He has no white feathers in lower pic, it's just the light bouncing off those shiny feathers. Now, keep in mind he had a very rough start to life and is a bit of a late bloomer, his wattles and comb are just really starting to develop. He turned 6 months old this week and just starting to really take off and gaining weight so fast now you can almost watch him grow!!! He actually ate Kale out of my hand today but then puffed up and thought about challenging me when one of the girls squawked when I picked her up. Silly boy. As much as I cherish him, I'm still top roo in this coop!
Oh my goodness...just look at him now. Really it is thrilling for me to see how good Max looks now. He probably would have been a goner without all your great care. Look how he shines! He is quite the handsome fella. Appreciate you posting his pics for all of us to see him recovered from his tough start. Congrats on a job well done! ~Dee~

ThAnk you Dee :hugs
I really am pleased the way he is developing. I was expecting him to be stunted, especially when you saw him next to his brother (big Max). He was getting the same special diet as little Max and he is already huge and gorgeous!!! Little Max is still behind in overall development but is catching up surprisingly quick.

It is amazing what good care does for a chicken ! ( yours ) Glad he is doing good !

Howdy

I have been in search of Australorp eggs for some time. Everytime I try to procure them, something goes wrong - from predators eating the flock to the breeder selling off the day before I ask to 36 eggs destroyed by USPS.

So I will give it a go here.

I am in SoCal. I need 24-36 fresh as possible Australorp eggs shipped on tues or wed dec 17 or 18. I will take smaller amounts too!

please pm me if you know of a breeder that may have birds laying

cheers

I have an Australorp hen and a roo he has gold laced neck feathers. Is that a color variation ? I got them as little chicks.

Gold in the neck of the Rooster? That is a cross at best. Do you have pictures you can post? What color egg does the hen lay.
I am not sure where you got them but they are not Black Australorps.

Dan

A lot of Black chickens are sold as Australorps. Often a feed store will order in a couple hundred chicks en masse and then toss them into sales brooders without knowing what they are.

Black and white chick? Australorp....Often they are Black Sex links.

Obviously! I am amazed at the Black chicks that are sold at Hatcheries, Feed Stores, etc for Black Australorps. I am also amazed by the people that fall into that trap. If they just want egg layers no big deal but then they need to know they have mutts and post on the Black Chicken thread not the Black Australorp thread. It is really confusing to see Black chickens from A to Z being called Australorps.

A mutt is a mutt. I have owned a lot of mutt dogs and Loved them dearly, but I never told anyone I had a Rottweiler, Border Collie, etc., etc.
