Australorps breed Thread

I have a area like this in my run. I can vouch it works well. My mesh is on a hing so I can lift it for cleaning if need be. I have neglected it a bit this summer as we had a heap of bird moulting and some feathers would get trapped in there, reducing the grow area. I have some run modifications coming up before we start to get rain where I will add a second one. There is finer mesh over the heavy gauge panel.
I have one too, and it does work great! Going to build.more comespring. I used an old pallet. Removed all but three planks on top and bottom then covered top w chicken wire. I spread Elbon rye under this fall and winter and its still there, still growing, still green, and the chickens still eat it and love it! I move it to a new location every once and a while and they spend all day scratching up everything left behind. I'll find a pic and post it.

Hello! I've been a lurker on this thread for a while. My son decided last year to hatch out some black australorp eggs as a 4H project. Low and behold one of them came out blue! I had no idea that there was such a thing in this country! The breeder we got the eggs from only has black and when I asked her about our blue girl, she said we were lucky! Little did I know! I was wondering if anyone of this thread could give me feedback on her coloring/conformation/etc? Thank you!

She looks very nice!

Australorps are not supposed to have red feathers. Red is around the eyes, comb and wattles. Sometimes feed store chicks get mixed up and Black Sex links are sold as Australorps.

It makes me sad when this happens and it goes back to the all black chickens are not Australorps saying.

Black Sexlinks are very good egg layers though!
