Australorps breed Thread

Hello Everyone,

Remember this chick?
LL

I just wanted to post her now, at 6 months.

I'm so pleased with the may she turned out!

But here is her sister, the larger Australorp chick, who is now smaller than the 'runt'. Funny the way things turn out sometimes.

Any idea how she could've turned out like this? She doesn't look mottled...
She's a feedstore chick, and anything is bound to turn up with that stock, but I just thought I'd ask.

Australorps are not supposed to have red feathers. Red is around the eyes, comb and wattles. Sometimes feed store chicks get mixed up and Black Sex links are sold as Australorps.

It makes me sad when this happens and it goes back to the all black chickens are not Australorps saying.

Black Sexlinks are very good egg layers though!
You misunderstood my question ..
Maybe I worded it wrong

I have a Australorp Roo ..Im pretty sure my baby chick is his ..at 2 weeks old I see no red ...when will I start to see Red on a baby Australorp ?
As he is very good at enforcing hid Roodom with his hens . We have other Roos but he pretty much keeps them away ...& hid hens stay with him

I was at Tsc today ...they had Australorps ..A young Man working there said they werent pure BA they were mixed with RIR & something else .
I dont know if he knew what he was talking about or not .
Or if he misunderstood the invoice they came in with ?

My two Australorp pullets have combs that have turned bright red and started to lay and they were hatched April 8. Other breeders might have different times depending on the line.

Hello! I've been a lurker on this thread for a while. My son decided last year to hatch out some black australorp eggs as a 4H project. Low and behold one of them came out blue! I had no idea that there was such a thing in this country! The breeder we got the eggs from only has black and when I asked her about our blue girl, she said we were lucky! Little did I know! I was wondering if anyone of this thread could give me feedback on her coloring/conformation/etc? Thank you!
Blues don't just happen. She had to have had something other than Black Australorps that carries a dilute gene. Maybe she didn't separate her breeders soon enough.

I have chicks that are 5 weeks old and the boys are just starting to get wattles and combs. However, my one year old hens and roosters still have some black feathers on their faces. We don't get the bright red faces in the US like they have in Australia.
