Australorps breed Thread

Anyone posting on this thread, should be treated with civility. Rudeness is not called for, and is out of place here. Dh bought, and installed an STC-1000 digital controller on the incubator I use for hatching. I'm getting it calibrated now. From what I'm seeing, it's fantastic!

1 third that ! Treat people the way you would like to be treated .
The Golden Rule !

Yea, I have some chickens alrwady, I had an australorp steal my heart. But it had to be euthanized

Hello all! I've been parusing the thread but I think I must have missed the answer to my question. I'm due to get day old BAs this week but was wondering if there were any signs th little peeper could be a she or a he? They should be she's but you never know!

Hello , & Welcome !
Sometimes it is harder to tell until later ..
Some baby roos develop crowns & wattles early .
some tell by the wideness of the comb .
Some you dont know for sure till they crow ..Does that help ?

Does anyone have some pictures of splash colored australorp chicks? I am wondering how hard it will be to tell the difference between splash and single dominant white over black in a mix of pure breed and black australorp xwhite leghorn type hatch. Ideally I would like to be able to tell at hatch, I know I can later easily.

The 'fraud' would be immediately obvious.

Quote: a nice Family ( including your son ) You have 2 Roos together ?

With Standard of Perfection type Australorps you can run more than one male in a pen. We introduced them together at the same time and they were fine, after a few moments of a cockfight. It is suggested to place a board or other object, about 3'x3' every so far in the pen. The less aggressive male will hide behind the board and the more aggressive will not see him and get distracted by that cute hen, feed etc. Sadly, Jahdan lost both males in the severe winter storm, but was able to acquire "their" son. Not sure which sired him as we were doing a pen breeding, but his new male is from our hatching eggs. Just another reason to share your stock with friends!
