Australorps breed Thread

Sorry for the crudeness of the photos. (Phones don't transfer to computers too well) The one on the right has the black face and a rounded tail. The one on the right has (slightly red), but a much lighter complexion. (comparing to the black face not going by young pullet) She also has very pointed, direct tail feathers. They are both the exact same age about 16 1/2 weeks. Are the differences just because of them maturing differently or is one maybe not pure/different breed? Any input if much appreciated :)

Thanks! Your girls sure are beautiful

I will have to admit the differences help me immensely when trying to tell chickens apart.

Thank you. They are a couple of characters! They keep me on my toes. lol Have fun! ~Dee~

I have 2 BA's... One has been laying, she laid the darker egg... The other laid her first egg today, the lighter one..... Why the difference in color?

The brown color in brown egg layers is a combination of 9 to 15 genes. The different combinations make the different shades of brown.

That is a very nice egg! Does it feel smooth?

How old is your BA? Curious cuz ours is 22 weeks but not laying yet. Not worried however.

I am interested in Australorps and am thinking about getting some at some point.
On average, how would you say they lay during the winter?
