Australorps breed Thread

Tomorrow is going to be a big day for my younger BA's. The third section of the coop is now finished. Had a two week set back due to a death in the family. I had hatched two groups, and have introduced them some in the run, but was unable to integrate them without the third section of the coop being done. Tomorrow, I will put both groups in the run together, introduce them to their new section of the coop, and supervise. At least 1 cockerel will be going into a large cage by himself. For now, I will let the other cockerel stay with the pullets.

Hello,

I have an Australorp question, are the colour of the chicks always the black and yellowy combination? Are they very distinct as chicks from other breeds? Sometimes I go to the poultry exchange and I just want to make sure I am actually getting Australorps.

Thanks!

Yes, and they will not have feathers on their feet.

All black with a spot is not an Australorp.

do the chicks have dark legs? and out of curiosity, what is it if is all black with a white spot?
The legs are usually dark. The soles can be white or pink. The breed that can fool you is the Jersey Giant. That is not a very common breed though.

Yes, my chick had dark legs with pink feet. All black with a white spot could be a Black sex link rooster.

I'm new to this breed. We have many others. My pullet came out of the pullet bin however out of ALL the pullets I have had in the past. I never have had one with such a big comb so early! Is this normal for this breed. She is about 3-4 w
