Australorps breed Thread

All my older chickens feel like hedgehogs. They have still have plenty of feathers, and none are bald, so it's very deceptive, until you pick one up, and feel spikiness. The other dead giveaway is that my rooster has no tail feathers. He looks a bit peculiar at first glance. I have them all on gamebird/showbird feed, and they (the hens) are going through quite a bit of oyster shell.

Why is it that we become best of friends when I get out the rake, or shovel to clean, and level the dirt in their coop?

Mine love to play dig. Im the most popular "chicken" in the yard when I take out the shovel. Try putting some stepping stones or wood on the ground then move them after a few days. Hours of chicken entertainment!
 
Are yours from a hatchery or breeder? You got to start somewhere !
