Australorps breed Thread

is Ninjago! My Australorp cross ?
Now I have this big girl on my shoulder

->

She's so big now!
What is it crossed with ? those are a awful big comb & wattles for a hen

Pretty Little Mama. <3

thats why I asked what it was crossed with ? Heres a full Aussie hen above
LL
other breed hens can have larger combs & wattles
Aussie hens tend to be more demure? modest with theirs ?
With magnification I think I see Roo tail feathers forming ...also
It would help to know the age of the chicken ..maybe they will peep up again with its age

Yep, Gramma Chick, I sure can see what you're saying. I just looked very hard at the cushion and, farther back, seeing no sign of cockerel feathers and made my 'educated guess'.............Considering that it's a crossbred bird, it could go either way.

Quoting myself here...I have a 5.5 month old Buckeye ???cockerel??? that seems a bit androgynous. It's BIG, like the other cockerels but so are the pullets. Being a buckeye, the pea comb is naturally small but this comb is VERY small. It has what looks like cockerel feathers back near it's tail but has never grown tail feathers like the obvious boys. It has masculine heavy legs and has somewhat male looking hackle feathers. (we did NOT caponize any Buckeyes).

It's one of those things that is just hard to get a handle on. If it's a pullet, good for it and me...if it turns decidedly 'ROO-ISH', I'ma gonna' put it in the soup pot!!!
