Australorps breed Thread

He just likes to relax. He regularly lays in the middle of all the chickens while they're pecking around. Unless it's something he'd also like to eat in which case it's all fair game.

Not sure chuck looks as excited by the idea lol

If omelet acts right and grabs just one or two at a time, Chuck looks like he's not going to expend too much energy trying to stop her...

He looks just a bit 'rotund'.

Making him ready for along cold winter. He wont miss a couple ounces of that fur.

TURK

Have started to notice a little spot on my 2 week old aussie's tail wher new feathers are beginning to start. Probably wouldn't see it yet normally except being a splash she is cream and the new feathers are grey.

Fingers crossed its the start of the female Aussie tail feathering in early I've read about!

You're right turk he wouldn't mind haha. I can walk my shepherd for miles, but the little guy quits on me at a mile and a half. He'll just slowly start to drag along until it's to the point if we went any slower we'd go backwards. They're both approaching 9 years but theirs no doubt Chuck would rather be a drive by eating ball of fur :)

I know you have nothing to compare to. But I raised 6 chicks not long ago (4 welsummer, 1 australorp, and an Araucana) and I found my Australorp (who turned out to be a roo) took absolutely forever to become full feathered. By 6 weeks old, he still had patches of fuzz/no feathers and he had a very big red comb for his age! At the same age all my other chicks were fully feathered.

Heres a really bad quality pic from my phone, you can see how ugly he looked at that age (6 weeks)

Plus his massive comb compared to the pullets in the pic!
