It did occur to other people.... The puppies all have names and the collars have a piece of tape stuck to them to identify them You can see it on the blue ones if you open the picture big.

This is not the first time I've seen marbles, or pebbles in a waterer for chicks. Please explain their purpose.

They are used to keep a chick from falling asleep in the water and drowning.

I use a quail base instead.
