Australorps breed Thread

Does anybody have pictures of their one week old Australorp chicks?
I have some from my last hatch. I cannot guarantee the age. You will not be able to tell gender with week old lorps though. They are not feather sexable as a breed.

These are a couple of days old and are Blue Black Splash genetics.

Can you absolutely not feather sex? Because we want a week old baby that is a female.
The only way is vent sexing--that is what the hatcheries use.

I have read about some that claim success with feather sexing australorps but it is not really accurate. The best way is to get a sexed pullet from a hatchery if you want 95% chance of getting a pullet.

From a breeder, chances will be 50% at a week old. You can usually tell by 6 weeks though.

No I was going to get one with some other chicks. But I don't know now since I don't want a rooster.
Are you getting them from a feed store? If so, go to the brooder with the sexed pullets. Make sure you get an Australorp though. Some places sell black sex links and other black chicks as australorps.

Yeah btdt. One of our first ones was a rooster and the neighbours complained to our council about it so we had to re home him which was quite stressful for the kids.
